DAY FIVE

Day five mostly consisted of driving 3 hours to walk 5 miles then driving 3 hours back home. Agriculture spray bidding in Dallas. Used the SwissTool main blade to cut a few zipties. Forgot to take an action shot.

So far this week I figured I'd have gone mad by now without my Wave + but this SwissTool is growing on me. You definitely need a good thumbnail to open these tools though.

So far the feature I like best is the Phillips screwdriver. Has a nice grip on the screw when turning.

I have been considering doing this as well.  The Spirit scissors cut great but it definitely would be nice if they opened a little wider.

I know McStitchy did a thread on the mod.  So who knows who originally came up with it.  But thanks to everyone who spreads the knowledge wealth to help the community.

You gave me too much credit for the work I didn't do, but that's a good reminder, I should actually do one myself.

It was Ice Tigre who had done it first in 2008 on Mod Squad, then McStitchy done it again 10 years later.  :D

Right you are guys, it was Matt! :salute: Thanks for the correction.  :tu:

Even though the scissors compare badly with the rest of the Victorinox range I think they're still head and shoulders above the competition. On the whole I really like my Wave but the scissors are awful and that's their flagship model. Even the great Gerber scissors aren't as good as the Spirit ones IMO
We're spoilt with the 91mm scissors aren't we  :D

Indeed, the 91mm scissors are the gold standard.. Although I do not find the Wave (in my case Charge, also modded one into my Rebar) scissors "awful", I'd call it decent, slightly below the ones on the Spirit.

Hmmm...that's interesting.  I can totally see why the removal of the fish scaler, but would you mind to share with us why backspring phillips and inline phillips in the same mod? :pok: :D
Haha, I'm making it for friend who doesn't like fish tool (it is very common ;) ) and corkscrew (for unknown reason 😆). Also I like to have inline Phillips in central position for more suitable work.

Come this April we gonna go into the STACK challenge, and am wondering whether I could find a use for the fish scaler.  If I were into fishing, I could totally see myself catching a fish and cooking it right at the spot.  But living in a metropolitan area, that is not happening anytime soon.

Phillips in a center position is a great idea.  :like:

Day 6

Strange use today...

I was replacing the magnet tailcap from my newly acquired 47 MK III flashlight to a delrin button, but the magnet kept on sticking itself back onto the flashlight and I just couldn't get it out...so Swisstool being a big piece of metal is perfect to pulling it out.

I had a similar experience with mine.  I got the magnet out but it was stuck to the tweezers holding them closed.  Spirit to the rescue.

Is that a Turbo?  If so how do you like it?

Good eye, indeed it's a turbo.  I actually quite like the offerings from foursevens, up until the point they were sold to Prometheus.   And I always have a soft spot for twisty with few well spaced out levels(where low is low, with really long burn time, and high is high).  One less thing to fail, shorter body and more weight saving.

Haven't really put it thru paces, but so far I like the fact it offers user quite a few choices for modes.  And I prefer mode 4(low med hi) instead of the default (med hi).  It also seems to have some kind of memory of last used level, but it's some kind of "Hybird" memory.

Love the slightly bigger head with the bigger reflector too, and always prefer that since it gives more throw without extra cost of battery life.

Day 6: Playing with the serrated blade, and some household repairs.  I used the awl for a screw starter and the Philips head to install the curtain hangers.

It is British Pie Week, so the chicken challenge will have to wait for a bit.

It's been sort of Spring-like lately.....I think BBQ chicken will be appropriate.  :)

March 07:

Our puppy (14 years-old, but still has 'puppy brain'.) had a tooth extraction a couple days ago. As part of his post-dental-torture care, we have to rinse his smile with a chlorhexidine wash. The squirt tip tends to clog up as the liquid crystalizes into the tip easily. Yesterday the awl reamed out the tip. Today the scissors trimmed it back a bit, both to open it, but also to enlarge the outlet. (Excellent scissors performance.) We'll see if that does the trick.

Thanks Fuzz, yeah it does have a certain charm doesn't it, the good thing about the BO is you don't get those embarrassing reflections like the silver ones, means i can take the pic and not worry about putting my trousers back on  :tu:

More enticing March 07 action:

Mrs Nix and I were outside (before it snows later) pruning trees, shrubs, and....lilacs.

My loppers (seen lying on the ground in a state of shame) were not up to the task. They actually started to break. Since the Swisstool, and its saw, were already in my pocket.....

I will say, the saw seemed a bit short for cutting this branch. It got the job done, and fairly quickly, but I'd have liked another couple of centimeters of cutting capability.
