I bought the ‘big’ ones last year to complete my 30-day 30 SAKs challenge, but they’re really just of value to me as part of my collection. I can’t justify carrying them because of their size. SC is my max for pocket carry.Normally prefer to carry a 3-layer like a Yeoman recreation or my Telluride. Covers most of my needs.
What kind of cyber-thing is that, DT?
Except it's not, Mr. Compact
See there.... that's the trouble - I've got a Compact on me about half the time. But I leave it at home when I go hiking or camping. What if I need a saw?
I guess we all know this line of reasoning. It's in the nature of SAKs, they fuel your "what if?" fantasies. Problem is, if you don't get that under control, you will end up carrying a XLT at all times
For me - in my little mind - I want a SAK that I will use for everything that I will use my SAK for - does that make any sense to anyone?I'm setting myself up for nostalgia in my later years.
Absolutely! Honestly, life was a lot easier (but no where near as fun!) when I only had the Huntsman. I think that's why I like Challenges. It takes the decision on what to carry out of the equation
That's a real Masterpiece, DT!
I can completely agree with you and with the rest of what you wrote but this ^^ really hit the nail on the head.
looks like I have an error on the bottom of the post and cut myself off accidentally. You wanna know something else I can't decide about....Fieldmaster vs. HuntsmanAs with my Compact, I can turn a Phillips screw with the can opener. But I wonder - am I more likely to rescue the pot-luck dinner, and fix my eyeglasses.... or am I more likely to secure a sunken Phillips screw.Historically it has been the former... but theres something about Fieldmaster February being around the corner that is reeling me in....
That leaves two more uses (for me) for the corkscrew: Opening knots and opening jars. The first one I have no need for when in the city or walking the dogs. When I go hiking or camping that is a different story, but the solution for that is the new SAK I have coming in tomorrow Jar opening (pickle jars for example) happens almost exclusively in the kitchen, so I can just reach for the Champ that is nearby.
Set it under the lid at about a 45 degree angle. Start twisting gently. The corkscrew will bend the lid just enough to break the seal.Had no idea it would work until i found a video of it. Since then, every lid that doesn‘t wanna budge, gets this treatment Unfortunately I cannot find the video anymore
