Found this Gerber...
on: January 13, 2020, 08:49:08 PM
Last night while walking the dogs I found this Gerber laying in the dirt next to a road:

I only saw it, because I basically stumbled over it.

It had dried mud on it, so I gave it a cleaning. Unfortunately there are no markings on it, so I cannot return it to its owner.
You can tell it was used a lot. The file is broken off, one of the wire cutters is missing and both Philips and blade were messed up.

I already fixed the blade and it is usable again. I would really like to bring it back to life. I am not very familiar with Gerber, can someone tell me what type it is? Has serrated blade and normal blade, and no scissors.

I think I would be uncomfortable to send it in to Gerber, to get it fixed, as I did not buy it. I understand that warranties are linked to the tool and not to the buyer, yet I still don‘t think it would be right. Does someone have parts laying around for this kind of tool, that they don‘t need anymore (maybe leftovers from a mod), and be willing to sell them to me? Doesn‘t have to be a file, whatever fits in the spot would be appreciated.

Any patent dates on the inside of the handle?
Looks like a 600 with the replaceable wire cutters, so a newer model. Just a guess on my part but cool find.

Nice find, Sir!  :tu:
Looks like a newer MP600 Basic with replaceable cutters ( wharncliffe PE blade; all three flat drivers set, and probably a giant lanyard ring). Replacement cutters are somewhat expensive for what they are, but good enough; they come with FOUR extra bolts. Good luck on your find, and "resto modding" it.
Edit: You may use tools from any MP400/600 series, as they are the same and  interchangable; I understand also that some of the Diesel's also work .

I do agree with you that it's a little wrong to send it in. I typically do it with those that came with other knives, as I don't want useless junk sitting around.

To me, I say replace the cutters and use it. The broken blade, damaged Phillips, and damaged blade, in my opinion, is making it just ask to be modded.

Yeah, if nobody here has some parts i might check online. Maybe i can find one with other broken implements. One whole one out of two broken ones.

Nice find.

With the amount broken on it, perhaps someone purposely tossed it?

Just another suggestion, SirVicaLot; if the phillips is just rounded, you can use the Gerber Tool Kit (or a Ganzo, or generic-cheap-chinese bit kit for that matter) on the phillips driver and be able to have as many drivers as bits you can carry!  :multi:

Good idea  :tu: I assume the tool kit adapter is used with the philips? Like LM does it too?
Are the bits that fit in there regular sized bits?

Great find Sir V, and  :hatsoff: for bringing it back to life.

I’ve only ‘discovered’ the Multi-Plier and MP600 recently, and they certainly have a character that sets them apart from other MTs. Enjoy!

Yes, it does fit over the phillips'; as a matter of fact, if you happen to have the Leatherman's bit adapter for the ST300/Rebar, you can use it as it fits very well ( that's the kit I use for both of my BO MP600s)

Are the bits that fit in there regular sized bits?

Yes they are! You can use ANY 1/4" bit that you have. That's its versatility!

On another note, Ganzo's and chinese clones are somewhat shorter than the Gerber's adapter, which for me it's better as I can reach and use the tool in tight places.

Thanks! Good to know. I don‘t have one of those adapters yet, so will add to my list. That also gives me an excuse to start another leatherworking project. Sheath with space for bit holders and an MP600.  :ahhh :D

Is there somewhere you could advertise it as found (local paper, Facebook group) in the hope of finding the owner?
Only the real owner will be able to identify it by saying what is broken on it etc. As well as people reading this thread.  :D
