Ruined my Farmer
on: December 31, 2008, 12:00:50 AM
Well today i did something very stupid. We had a motor burn out and I went to fix it. I decided to keep the wires longer by cutting it at the motor, so my fat hands could fit into the space to work easier, and cut them with the blade.

But stupid me forgot to kill the power. I got a good zap, and a nice chunk out of the blade. I will post a pic. of it later. I am so bummed

Sorry to hear about your Farmer. Can the blade normally handle wires like that though?  ???

Hehe, my friend did exactly the same thing with his climber, and got a lot of flak from me.  :D

Good thing you didn't use your D2 griptilian, or you'd really be kicking yourself.

Good to see you survived! (and the SAK)

I had something like that some years ago. The problem was not so much the electricity but the heartattack I almost got from the surprise of the bang and sparks  :o  I would not be surprised that the surprise of the bang and sparks that come with a "good" shortage kills as much people as the electricity it self.

What's the matter John?  You enjoy the defibrillator so much you decided to try and recreate the feeling?   :pok:

And here I thought you were going to look after yourself from here on in...  :ahhh

As everyone else said, I am glad to hear you are ok, but I think you need to watch out a bit more!  There comes an age where you have to stop being Wile E Coyote, you know!  :D

Almost anyone who has worked with electricity has done that to themselves at some point.  I destroyed a very nice pair of Knipex side cutters that way.  In my defence someone else told my the supply was off and I took his word for it.  :-\

Anyway that isn't a "chunk" out of the blade it's a carefully made wire stripping notch.  ;)

Glad to hear you're OK.

Hope you are alright. Regarding the Farmer, you can always get a replacement, but your health is another thing

Years ago I actuallly worked with an EMT that was going through paramedic training, and one bright sunny day this paragon, this shining example of medical healers decided he wanted to feel what a defibrillation felt like,so he pulled the defibrillator from our back up squad and started administering himself a shock at low joules..the lowest the model  we had in use could deliver....he never did that again.

In a way, I quite like minor nicks and scratches on tools - shows that they have been used. It's a bonus if they have an interesting story behind them like yours :)

The Farmer is a very high quality slipjoint which I feel has a very cheap price tag  :D If something happened to mine or I lost it  I'd replace it ASAP .
And craig I also agree , battle scars can be a nice thing  :D One of my swisstools has been through loads and has an electrical scar too  :D

Ruined?!?! Bah!! That is just the first step on you super-custom-one-0f-a-kind Recurve Farmer Regrind.  :pok: Glad that you didn't fry yourself.  Seriously, I have ground much worse out of used knives before. You should be able to clean that up fine. 'Tis a perfect excuse to buy a DMT x-coarse or xx-coarse stone.
