Dudes and dudesses,

Oh my  :-[

Just weighed myself.......19 Stone 10  >:(

So new years resolutions are

1)  to cut chocolate (no I can't moderate myself...its either all or nothing....I'm an "Extreme" person)
2)  Lift weights every Monday and Friday
3)  run every Tuesday and Thursday

Hopefully then I will be back at a "reasonable" fighting weight of 17 stone like I was in the academy.

Oh yeah I am 6'3" and "big boned"

I might even start my boxing and Aikido again.

(Shall I do a running thread on my progress or will that bore everyone?  :-\)

Feel free to laugh at the fat kid, :D

Lol.

A running "progress" thread would definitely help you stick to your schedule, so why not?

Good luck with it either way!
I used to come here a lot.

He needs a good thumping Flash. Perhaps you could run on over to his place on Tuesdays and Thursdays and lift him up by the back of the neck on Mondays and Fridays. :twak: :D

Flash, have you ever heard of the Atkins diet? My father, who is a big man lost 30 pounds while going on the Atkins diet.. If I remember correctly all you eat is foods containing high carbs.. So it is not like a diet where you are starving yourself or anything.. I work out on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings early and I concentrate on certain parts of the body. Monday is upper body, Wendesday is lower body, and Friday is cardio. If you did this training every week, you will be impressed. Oh, and I would definitely take up Aikido or boxing.. I did Aikido for a long time, and it is phenomenal! Another option would be to take up Brazilian Jujitsu- you will get it better shape and have better flexibility. Hope this helps mate..

I weigh in at 235 and my BMI is over what it should be; but it is because of muscle mass...

The Atkins diet it high protein not carbs.  You basically eat meat, and cut out breads and pastas.  It is however horrible for your kidneys and you have to keep up the diet forever, because as soon as you start eating the carbs your weight comes back.  I just lost 30 lbs simply from moderation.  I don't eat sweets, because I can't digest the sugar right (makes me crash horribly).  I also started drinkin gonly water when I go out and when I'm eating.  Eat a little something for breakfast (oatmeal), usually have the same thing for lunch, and a sensible dinner high in veggies and protein.  I went from 210 after the marriage to 175 which is what I weighed when I started dating my wife.  The holidays put a little back on, but I will get it off in the coming weeks.

LM123 and Loudliam,

Thanks for the advice.  Atkins is out as I am a vegetarian (I know....how does a veggie get so damn fat :D)

As for Aikido, I hold a Shodan Black Belt and used to teach before "shift work" took over.

Believe it or not I used to be mega fit, training everyday.  Then something happened to me....some of you will be nodding your heads...Marriage and fatherhood......................they seriously dent your available work out time.  But so I am around for a loooong time with family I need to prioritse what is important to me.  That is health and family.

I know what to do.....I am just too lazy/knackered after work to do it  :-[

I know there are no shortcuts.....all health guru's/miracle cure's/tablets/fitness crazies can be cut by this effective mantra...

"Eat less, lift more, run more"

Now all I have to do is DO IT.
