Rebar mods?
on: April 28, 2020, 06:37:31 PM
Just got my only Leatherman, a Rebar.
I'd like to lose the three knife / saw blades and have one half standard, half serated blade.
I'd also like to lose the leather awl.
A smaller Phillips driver and a smaller flat head would be great.
Maybe a larger flat too.
Scissors maybe, but I do have a folding pair I carry with my keys.
Any ideas or sources?

eBay has a larger selection of individual parts for sale, although pricey. The best idea might be to buy 1-2 used ones for parts and strip them down.

Maybe try trading for one to save some cash as well.

Sounds a whole lot like the Leatherman P2

If I buy a p2, can the clip be added to my rebar along with some of the tools?

Leatherman site is having a spring sale you can take advantage of. Personally prefer the friction based MT than the magnetic.

You might want to check if anybody has ever modded Free P series implements to fit into a Rebar. I can't say I have come across any reports that that is possible. The P2 clip is screwed to the handle and will require a fair handle wall thickness which I'm not sure the Rebar can offer.
Cheers!

The locking tang design on the free series is completely different than Wave/Rebar/Blast/Fuse/Signal.  It's not a drop in, you'd need to do some grinding (if it is even possible.)

The P2 clip would work fine, but you'd need to drill threaded holes in the rebar for the screws, or come to some other arrangement to attach it.  The rebar chassis is plenty thick.

Have you considered the wingman?  A p2 for half the cost.

I'd, also is be interested in buying any rebar parts that you discard!   :climber:

Thank you. That list of similar tools will help.
I have a sideclip tool in my biker jacket. Forgot about that.

You have a Sideclip?  Quite the collector's item.

I decided on adding scissors and the eyeglass screwdriver.
Of the serrated blade, saw blade and useless leather awl, removing what of them will get me there?
Also, looking for an eyeglass screwdriver.

I have no use for the awl.
I'd like to find the mini driver parts. An in between Phillips point would be great.

Mini driver is in:)
Anyone has a can opener, or either screwdrivers to spare, I'm looking...
Modded mine for the scissors, and should have let them be.
I find I'm storing them open anyhow.

:iagree: A mod that is made by the end user is always so great to use and gives a sense of accomplishment  The 2 blades in one handle instead of 1 blade in each handle is something I don't think I have seen  Hope the mod works for you exactly how you want :like:
