I think I got a bit excited and forgot I had some stuff on my plate today. I will make sure it gets out tomorrow (and as a backup, Julia said she'd take it Friday if for any reason I don't get it out tomorrow). Sorry for the delay, guys!

The Sos Surprise Box arrived at my door approximately 14:00.  :mail:
I meticulously searched each bag within the box, selected a few pieces, added a few pieces, and got it back in USPS hands in less than 2 hours.  I have informed friend Lazar that the tracking number should be available after 17:00 hours and our package should be on its way to middle America by 23:00.  My apologies to all, but in my haste to reseal the package I forgot to replace the notepad that everyone had been leaving personal messages for the next recipient on, and unfortunately, I didn't discover this until I got back from the post office.

Here are my selections.  The Schrade Sharpfinger 152OT, a Remington trapper, a Klein Tools one-sided Jackknife, a Vic Classic, and a safety razor with some blades.

Nice.  What is a one-sided jack knife?  Is the other side missing?  I think this is the fastest turn-around on record.  I think I had a Sharpfinger many years ago.  Best wishes.  G

Both blades are on one end, like a trapper, but it is not a trapper.  I didn't know what else to call it.  :dunno:

I think I would call it just a two-bladed jack knife.  I carried one about like it from grade school until part way through high school.  Camillus just called all of them jack knives with an additional designation for the handle type.  Looks like a nice one.  Maybe someone else has another name for that type knife.  Best wishes.  G

Serpentine Jack sounds good to me.  Looks like a fine old knife.  It's good seeing the Sos box moving around again.  One of my favorite threads is this one.  I enjoy seeing what the members keep out of the box.  Best wishes.  G

I used the safety razor this morning and it feels and sounds like it is scraping but it actually gave me a pretty good shave.  I will add it to my rotation of now 6 safety razors.  Lazar should have the surprise package now as it was delivered this afternoon according to USPS tracking.

Yeah, they do feel different but I'm getting used to it.

I've been using a safety razor for nigh on 15yrs.  I would never go back to the disposable or electric ones.

Yeah, disposables are too expensive and most of them don't cut very well. I've never been able to get a good shave from an electric.

I had a safety for a bit in my early 20s. Blades awlways rusted. Not sure if I did something wrong, or it was just a crap design. Liked the way it cut, but didn't like only getting one or two shaves out of a blade. Tried one again about a year ago and haven't had the problem since. Agree that it's a much nicer shave than a cartridge, as well as a better price. I can shave with a straight edge, and you do get beautiful control, but it's a lot more work. I think the safety gives a good balance between effort and results.

My Dad used a Gillette safety razor when I was a kid, but switched to Gillette Atra by the time I was a teen. So when it was time for me to get my own razor I went with the Atra and used that until I was in my late 30s. Then I switched to disposables. Last year was the first time in my life I ever shaved with a safety razor, although I was familiar with them from my childhood.

I still keep some disposables around, but I shave with a safety razor most days. Last time (or maybe it was the first time  ) I had the GAW box, I got a safety razor and some blades from it. But I had awlready started using a safety razor, having bought one off Amazon maybe a month before.

I always felt that the electric razors either pulled my hair out or didn't really shave at all.  Best I ever got out of one was a 5 o'clock shadow and an irritated face.  I was probably using it wrong.   :dunno:

I've debated about trying to shave with a straight edge but I've never done anything about it as my safety razor does a great job.

I just ordered a sample pack of safety razor blades. The only blades I have are some I got from the Box, and some that came with the handle I bought. I've been meaning to research a bit for better quality blades, and this sample pack seems like a good way to go, to choose a brand that I like. It includes blades from Feather, Gillette, Persona, Astra, Voskhod, Merkur and a few others. I'm hoping that I'll find one or two favorites by the time I work through those. I'll probably get a nicer handle too, by then.

I bought an antique straight razor several years ago, but I've only used it a couple of times.  The learning curve is a little intimidating.  There are three notches carved into the handle, and I don't know if that is for how many generations of the same family used it or if that denotes the number of ears harvested.

@WECSOG - I'm currently using some Van Der Hagen blades that I picked up at one of the big box stores and they've served me well.  Target used to have some good ones but it's been forever since I've been there.

Good news.  Bad news.  Medium flat rate box shipping won't go up in July 2026.  Still $24.80.  Lots of other things are going up.  Forever stamps will jump from $.78 to $.82.  International one ounce rates will go up 5 cents.
Trying to find rates on-line gets worse all the time.  You might see the correct information, but you probably won't.  Best thing is to check with the post office in person if you want accuracy.
Best wishes.  G
