Cadets seem to be shipping with the new file now, and there was one on the 2018 Christmas sportsman.Ive yet to see one on a standard red model however.

I have one, but I sure wish it was the old type. I hate the grooved ones. They just eat the nails right up. The old style actually sand them nicely. Not really impressed.

I like the new ones much better  :dunno: Wish they would put them on the classic as well.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy it from?

A bit blurry but better than nothing  :)

I just got one a week or so ago from Travel Universe in Aus. I don't file my nails, and I've got a pebble file on my Classic anyway.

The new file will shred through your nails if you treat it like a normal nail file, but it's easier to clean and will do a decent job smoothing wood, plastic and even metal. I just wish they put a metal saw on the edge of it.

Totally agree, más. That one little change would add so much to an already great little pocketknife.

I think the Christmas Sportsman from 2018 had the new stainless steel file

Sorry, bad joke.

I'm not 100% sure, but I received a brand new Sportsman as a gift just recently, Christmas 2019, so can only assume it has the "newest" version of the file.

It has the lines cut into it, rather than the speckled pattern or diamond types that I have on other knives.

I like the file and have used it for various purposes with no issues. I wouldn't mind it having a cutting edge on it too, as mentioned up there ^ somewhere, but I haven't missed it yet.

I love metal files on Saks as well - as long as you don't use them on metal, they're fantastic!
There's zero chance of the Sportsman's new file gaining a "metal saw" edge.  Victorinox have only just designed and mass-produced this one, and have no incentive to reinvent something that's just 2 years old. As we know, once they decide how a tool should be, it stays that way for decades!
