My 2nd SAK Mod...
on: May 24, 2020, 10:20:48 AM
Donor: Broken SwissChamp

Just wanted to fit that wharnie that I bought a while back.. Maker is Queen Cutlery I think. Thick stock, was unsharpened when I got it.

Never had a need for the bottle opener so I left it out but its really difficult to find a scale without the cut out for the corkscrew..

Rather simple 4.5 layer... Cheers.

"Custom" road rash scales... Yeah i know.. I am a cheapskate.

Didn't want to go thru the hassle of making a scale.. So.. the Corkscrew cut out have to stay.

Well, my favourite blade shape.

Tool load.. Or what's left thats usable.

Stay safe everyone!!

Nice mod. Would it be possible to use a front scale on the back side? Obviously the holes for the bushings won't line up so glue or epoxy would be needed

Wait that wouldn't work because of the toothpick.

I had that thought sometime ago. But I can't exactly remember why I didn't do it.. I dun mind sticking a dummy toothpick permanently. Never used that anyway.

:hatsoff: with the suggestion from Reinier, am in the process of rummaging through my old saks for another wrecked front scale. Pretty sure I can find something.

Some revision as suggested by Reinier. Both sides uses front scales with the Vic shield. Looks way way better now. Added a minute touch of black for a little more contrast. "Toothpick" is a dummy just to fill up the slot. Cheers!

Those are just... rash cuts... Would really love to be able to do what Spiggle is doing with those metal scales one day.

Thanks Steve and Pa_strunk! Was a pretty fun process. Going with simple first..

Was using the usual suspension clip for a few days... Like the way it hung hidden in the pocket but didn't like the way it's dangling around when using the blade.. Why do Vic like to have the lanyard loop at the blade's end???.... Used that clip and fashioned a pocket clip instead... Did some trimming under the scale to let it sit flushed.. assembled by contact cement. Not exactly sure how it will hold. If it doesnt, will have to go with epoxy.. Went trigger happy with the dremel and went with another Vic...  :D :D

That's really nice mod.

You can buy non-corkscrew cut-out scales, 3D printed:

Your set-up is similar to my mod, but you got the extra layer:

Not being in the UK/US complicate things. After custom order and shipping, the numbers are going to add up... I... didn't.. want to pay..

Like your mod. Actually all I wanted is the small pen blade in a SAK..

Sam Lim,  Great job on the custom scales!  Very different from anything I've seen.  Do you mind sharing what Dremel bit(s) you used?  I'd love to fool around with something similar, but currently have a limited selection of bits.

:hatsoff: It's just a standard cutting disc. I just went at it at different angle. The whole idea was to have something different while keeping still the $ in the pocket.
