I'm not sure, but I don't think you'd ask unless the number is really low or really high.

Would someone please post a top down end to end pic of a Farmer X and a Climber? I think even the Climber is thicker.  I’m on the verge of getting a Farmer X, but need some help. Thanks ahead.  8)

I don’t own a Climber (I’m a Compact guy), but here is a Farmer X and a Trail Guide. The file layer on the TG is the same width as the opener layer on a Climber, so this should be pretty close. The Farmer X is a wee bit thicker.

Keep in mind Victorinox includes the "height" (thickness) of the corkscrew... so the Climber at 18mm is the same body exactly as the Super Tinker at 17mm (which has the T-Phillips instead).

So the climber is probably ever so slightly thinner than the Farmer X, but lacks a layer and has thinner tools instead of the beefier tools of the Farmer X.

Farmer X has become my dedicated outdoors workhorse multitool.  :D

Still hoping for a Farmer X without a saw and a combo tool instead of two openers...

I wouldn’t hold my breath for a 93mm combo tool, but stranger things have happened.  Of course, this would also mean the loss of the outstanding 93mm awl on models with the combo tool.

Also note that the Pioneer X is actually the same thickness as the (cellidor) Compact, though somewhat heavier.

 :iagree:

And IMO the perfect thickness for comfort, both as a knife and as an SD. Anything thinner or thicker is not as comfortable.
I bloody love my PX!!  :tu:

nah nah the awl is compulsory! And I mean that awesome side awl, not the perpendicular one one the back layer.

maybe a mod would succeed at this?

You'd be amazed what you can ream with the fixed blade of the scissors. Like, putting a hole through a chunk of 3/4" plywood. It takes a lot more time and effort, though, and if anything goes wrong you could really donk those scissors up.

My Compact's scissors survived that horror show, but I still switched back to tools with a dedicated awl.

Not totally sure how this would come together...

The 93mm awl shares the layer with the main blade, and is in the same spot that would normally be occupied by the small blade or combo tool (at least on 91mm knives).  It might be possible to leave the 93mm main blade/awl layer alone, and put in a combo tool something like the 111mm Hunter has.  But, unless there is some other tool that would be of great value and be able to share the layer with the combo tool, might as well stick with the stock opener layer.

I'm sure it works in a pinch, but the scissors only work so well when the blades lock up tight and smooth. Any warping or loosening might ruin them, and it's one of the thinner tools.  :twak:

You can even awl with the corkscrew in some occasions.

Anyway, doubling back to combo tools and layer savings: I can understand why some people like combo tools, but it's one of only two Victorinox implements I've ever damaged, and the only one I damaged through normal use. I also value the small blade on cellidor models, the awl on alox models, and the two driver sizes on both. Full opener layer for me!

That's why i said "Alox Compact"....
It's impossible to fit the combo tool in there any other way.
Fitting SAK tools together follows a (mechanical) logic, if one deviates from that logic it just doesn't work...  ;)
