5 Questions to ask SOG
on: January 06, 2009, 01:16:17 AM
I have a meeting set with Chris@SOG at this year's SHOT Show and I want to know what you guys want to know about.  I'll take the best questions and make sure I get an answer while I'm there.

So, what 5 things do you want to know about SOG?

Is there any chance of seeing more blade styles for the powerlock in the future?  (ie: tanto, clip-point, spear-point, etc.)

When will SOG offer a 4 inch long (when closed) version of the PowerLock with locking implements?

Funny, I have never seen the need for a wire stripper.  I always saw that as a bit of a "filler" tool but I guess that is not the case.

Perhaps most importantly: RESPECTABLE knife blades on their multi's.

Ben, I never need a wire stripper either; but I think the implement is really neat! It looks like it would really well too.. If i do need to strip wire, I use the wire cutters..

Well that's what I do, so why he need to ask about the wire stripper then?

Some of us (like me) work with wires all day so it's a big deal to have "proper" strippers. I usually carry a dedicate pair of strippers along with my Leatherman.

Sorry to go OT Def, but why if you never use it?

I'm just curious that's all.  :)

Haha, I would use it, because it looks as if it works a hell of a lot better than the stripper on LM tools (with the exeption of the Radio Shack Juice) or any other stripper!

I used to be an electronic service engineer that also did audio/visual and white goods installations and in 3 years I never once used a wire stripper.

I guess I never found a decent one.

Interesting. I'm a  theatre tech and it seems I'm stripping 10 - 20 AWG all the time. In fact yesterday I was wiring up this rolling bookcase of illuminated jars. Each jar had a cluster assembled from LED Christmas lights I had pulled apart, and the wiring harness for the unit was all zip cord, running from a 6v battery.

Klein makes some good strippers but my most "pocketable" one is a $10 Ideal from the Depot.

I'm actually intrigued now to go give some a go. I just got used to cutters and they worked well enough for me so I didn't look into other options.

Anyway... back on topic.  :D

It was not very effective, I have one and it can't cut at all.  I think the V cutter has replaced it for the better.

I got a cool pair of Kronus wire strippers that flip into a sidecutter at Radio Shack...Although I'm also comfortable stripping wire with the wire cutters of a multitool, or a regular blade if I have to.

But back on topic..

-When is SOG going to design an outside opening tools Powerlock?  It seems fairly easy to do...is it just a matter of copyrights or something?

-Any plans on selling plier heads seperately?  The new cutter head, or even the new Powerlock 2.0 head...a cool linesmans pliers head, blunt nose head...etc.

I understand why they don't...if you could just buy the cutter head and put it in your existing Powerlock...then SOG doesn't sell an entire new tool...still would like to hear a response :D

If the tools were outside opening you woulden't need handle flaps...two birds with one SOG!
