5 Questions to ask Victorinox
on: January 06, 2009, 01:21:02 AM
I hope you are sensing a theme here....

What specifically would you like to ask Victorinox if you had the chance?

The reason why the SwissTools don't have OHO blades is because of the European knife laws..

Lets see what's my line up:

84 mm with scissors.

Electrician/Hawkbill blade on more "standard" models, IE - Tinker, Climber,

Some different combinations of tools on 2 and 3 layer models.
Fan of the Leatherman mini-bit driver and the Vic backspring philips.

Yea...I'd like to see a Swisstool/Spirit with a OHO blade...I'd like to ask if one is in the works.

Why does the Combo tool get so little use on the 91mm range?

Why am I so disappointed with the new Soldier?

When are you bringing back 84mm scissors?

Wenger bring out new tool designs all the time, why don't you?

Can I have a job?

With the large numbers of cheap knock-offs on the market and the increasing anti-knife sentiment in many countries, do they foresee a time when they'll cease to make SAKs or pull out of certain regions.  Is perhaps this the reason for the diversification into other areas, luggage, clothes, watches etc.

Are there any plans for different tools to come out in the near future such as a magnifier on the 84mm line, wire cutters on the 91mms, light saber on the 111mms or whatever really.  What goodies will we be getting

Can I have some freebies (that's a question from me, not for you to ask) :P

Neil
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I'd also be curious to hear how they feel about the anti-knife climate at large, especially in their home continent.

How about bringing out something that will compete with Leatherman's Squirt P4 or SOG's  now discontinued Cross Grip?

Will we ever get openers (and other tools) in the 74s?   74 is a nice size, but the tool selection is limited.
A 74mm "Executive Minichamp" would really rock!

Full-length backspring tools on the larger sizes would be nice too   (like the long nailfile, but supported by
a full-length pin).   This would allow for more long skinny tools which are good for tight spaces.
Other than the corkscrew, there is little reason to have tools sticking out of the middle of the knife.
The non-corkscrew models would be improved by moving the backspring tools to the end.
Long, skinny files and screwdrivers would be particularly handy.

Any chance of expanding on the user swappable/replaceable tools that the Rescue Tool has?
Or offering that feature on some other knives?

Could we get a better light in the "Lite" models?

Will the Traveller scales appear on any other SAKs?  Any chance we can get Traveller scales separately?

Do we get to ask Wenger questions too?

The New Ranger Touring 174 is a real mystery.   Looks like there was a lot of special tooling done
for that one for such a small run.   Was it one of the runners-up to be the new Soldier knife?

When will the bit driver in the 174 appear in other New Rangers?

Would you consider allowing us to buy the Wengergrip bit adaptor so we can use it with the Alinghi?

Any chance of letting the pliers open further on the New Rangers?
Aitor's pliers design is very similar but does not have that limitation.

When is Wenger going to release the "Mike Horn" Rangers?

Are they going to produce (reproduce) some of the old discontinued models, maybe in a limited run (with changes/marks separating them from the original), or reintroduce some of the discontinued models? (with modern features not to drop the value of the collectibles).

Non locking blades for ST and Spirit for our UK brothers and sisters (and anywhere else in the world they have insane laws).

OH ST and Spirit mentioned before (for those fortunate enough to live in a country with a bit more sanity)

that's it for now too sleepy to think of anything else.

Thx V.

EDIT: a SAK made out of a slab of Titanium  :ahhh    :gimme: all the implements made out of Ti, wait wait the whole thing made out of Ti, hmmz or at least the implements. Tougher scales (g10???), and aluminum brass liners and pins

Also when will Vic make a Locksmiths knife with some actual locksmith(possibly lockpicks) tools on it, having a file on a knife doesn't make it a locksmiths knife.

Any plans to release a slip jointed MT for hostile markets?

What future for the Alox range of Sak's?, new models, or just more colours?

How are they addressing the problem of increasingly hostile knife legislation in various countries around the world?

Any plans to make a juice sized MT?

And how are Victorinox planing to weather the current and future economic crisis?

Same question! I will not stop loving Leathermans but if Vic swisstool/spirit went OHO bladed I would definitely be a two timer  :D

+1  :tu: along with a harder steel alloy for the knife blade(s) and pocket clips/biners for the STs are all in my wish list. Are any of these in their to-do list?

What is Wenger's future plan as they are no longer the supplier to swiss army?

What stainless steel alloy are they using?

Carbon   Manganese   Chromium   Molybdenum   Silicon   HRC
0.52   0.45   15   0.5   0.6   56
