Day 3

I switched between these three today, depending on the job.

My favorite traditional work knife is usually either a spear-point Barlow or an Electrician; as they're sturdy patterns, but farily lightweight.  This is a Camillus #327 Dura-Tool Journeyman, produced 1996-2001. The Dura-Tool line, in addition to classics like the #51 Barlow, offered metal handles on three patterns, a hawkbill, TL-29, and a 3" Barlow-like knife with a bottle opener/screwdriver tool. They sold at a cheaper price than the fancier knives, but are equal quality to all of my Camillus. The screwdriver does not have any play at all when locked up, the action is nice and snappy. But, I will say I prefer the traditional handle setup--the metal slabs dig into my hands.  But, the steel handles are more sanitary--less places for goo and bacteria to hide.

Case 1981 Eisenhower. My Granddad found it at work, and no one claimed it, so he kept it. Thus, it's why, unlike a lot of his Cases, it looks used. The tarnish is due to a Boker in his box that had celluloid handles; they outgassed and made one heck of a mess, rusting, tarnishing, and corroding a ton of knives, and ruining that Boker.  I polished it the best I could, but this was one of the more severely affected ones. I asked my Granddad for a handful of users after I cleaned them up, and this was one of them.  I took a nap, and as I got up from the bed, threw this one into my pocket when I went to the end of state maintenance to get the mail, as I had packages, which was leather treatment and a used Victorinox Cadet.

Camillus Cub Scout Knife. Camillus produced two different versions, carbon steel with bolsters and a separate shield; and a stainless variant with Delrin slabs and no bolsters that was a budget model. I have both, but this is the latter, I got this one for around $5 from another forum. The awl was probably broken at one point has been made into a screwdriver, and with an old broken coarse whetstone, I tweaked it so it would work (fits #1 Phillips great, which supplements the slotted one on the cap lifter, which fits #2 Phillips), and whoever last sharpened it did a great job--this thing is a scalpel! The Cub Scout pattern is among my favorite EDC knives--lightweight, strong, tough, and just enough tools. Screwdriver and awl lock.

Your writeup about stainless steel handle reminded me about reading a surgeon working in Africa using SAK for surgery, he wrote how effective was the saw and using boiling hot water to sterilize the knife(the scales of course have fallen off long ago due to high heat) before surgery.

DAY 3 no pictures as I've not been able to remedy my picture situation.  I'm sticking with it regardless but I do hope to sort out my issues soon.

Unsurprisingly, 'cos it's new, I've got my Case Sodbuster jr in my pocket today.  So far I have to admit I'm not 100% in love.  There's nothing wrong with it but I haven't fallen for it in that same was as I have with my mini trapper for instance.  Still a sold knife though.

I've put a big dollop of oil in the pivot and that's helped me like then feel of it more.  I can't even say why I'm not liking it as much as I thought I would.  I'll give it some time though.

Gec tae Fuzz Day 4

Mr Pemberton's working out to being a pretty decent gardening knife. I had my doubts there too because of its dinky stature, but It's got a nice weight to it and sits in the hand well, patiently, while your fingers fiddle away with bits of string etc.

As you can see it's just starting to develop a little bit of patina... Dean would not be happy.

Swarfega always walks. I don't [know] who's going around nicking the stuff, but I've given up buying it, it's costing me a fortune. Sorry Mags, but you hit a nerve there. Sorry. I'm off to find a paper bag now and try and calm down a bit...

The big handle and thin, razor sharp blade of the Opinel No. 12 make it an excellent slicer.

Day 4

Happy 4th of July !

A couple of Cases today, Dean liked Case knives especially the SS versions. I surprised  Dean and gifted him a Case SS Half Whittler a couple of months before he passed as I just wanted to brighten his day a bit. I think it meant a lot to him.

Solid knife.  I find with my Sod Buster when I use it for yard work I am happy to have it.  No fuss getting it dirty and working it hard.

DAY 4

Got my pictures working again  :woohoo:.

I've got my Case Mini Trapper with me.  Its on cheese duty  :D.  Felt like a quesadilla for breakfast.

Here are pictures of DAY 2 and DAY 3 as well.
Day 2 was working day snack and refuel. Camillus got the call on day 2.
Day 3 was out in the yard putting down cardboard as my weed barrier.  Sod Buster shines on tasks where I dont want to foul up my prettier Trads.
