How does SAK repair / replace broken tools on ST ?
on: January 06, 2009, 09:40:26 PM
1)  has anyone had their ST repaired by having a tool replaced?
2)  how did SAK remove the pin?
3)  Was there any cosmetic damage when your ST came back?
4)  Did you have to pay for shipping?
5)  How long did it take?

Just to clarify, that should be Victorinox not SAK.

Sorry to be picky but that bugs me.  :D

No idea I'm afraid.  :-\  I think LM123 has sent in a ST for repair before.
I'm back!!

Let me start out by saying:  "I DON'T KNOW"

But if I were to guess, Vic would have a template that sets over the rivet head, and then has a drillpress that drills out the head, slightly larger than the pin.  Then press out the pin, replace what's needed and set new rivet.

At least that's wot I'd do...

In my case, and in the few other cases I recall, Vic didn't repair them - they simply replaced them with new STs.

I have used their warranty service quite a few times.. Nevertheless, they replaced them every time with an 05 plier head model. Their warranty is very prompt too, I usually get the tool back within a week.. I live in MA, and the service center is in CT so that has something to do with it.. Hope this helped!  :)

So they had to replace the plier head.  did they leave any cosmetic damage?  was there any noticeable difference of any kind after the repair or as good as new?

I have sent two Swisstools and one spirit in for repairs over the years . Both swisstools were replaced with new ones but the spirit was sent back to Switzerland by Burton McCall and had a new plier head fitted . There was no cosmetic damage to the Spirit and it was fixed 100% . It was most certainly my old tool as the phillips had a mark on it .

Interesting. Any guess as to why the Spirit was treated differently, Dunc?

The Spirit was the last one I sent away , about 18 months ago I think . So maybe they don't replace now and only repair but I can't confirm that . I had great service on the 3 times I used it .

Mine had a small bit of damage to one of the locks and they sent me a new one.
