Currently been EDCing Knipex Combination Pliers and a SAK(either a Fieldmaster or Wenger Forester)  I like that it saves a lot of weight. The pliers themselves weigh very little compared to a leatherman Wave. This helps distribute the weight evenly so I dont have a full size MT dragging my pants down.

I wonder if anyone else sets up their EDC this way, if so I want to see your SAK and Plier combos!

I carry the Spirit most of the time and I am very happy with it. However, i am always looking for new solutions and combinations, so this has me interested. What is the weight of those pliers?

Along with my SAK (typically a Compact) I normally carry a set of Knipex 125mm cobra pliers, but this weekend I learned they’ve released an even smaller 100mm set, aptly called “XS” pliers.

When they arrive in a few days I’ll post a photo:

116 grams (4.0 OZ.) I carry them in this pancake style pouch I got that rides high on the belt, my shirt tucks over them and I don't even notice them most of the time just walking around.

This is not a real combo as I forgot my Soldier (I feel naked) and I don’t need to carry the mother of all side cutters daily. It is used daily though! (and these bad dog knipex are it)

Though I still carry a pliers-based MT from time to time, more often I will do the SAK + pliers thing.  "Real" pliers, even small ones, are way better than MT pliers.

I haven’t either, but when I saw them in someone’s “EDC” photo last weekend I ordered them immediately.  Based on my universally positive experiences with Knipex’s products in the past, I suspect they will be of excellent quality.  What remains to be seen is how big a job they’ll be capable of handling.

Very interesting. I wish they would make the handles on these collapsable, that would be neat  :gimme:

I actually like having the dedicated pliers, having more structural integrity I have more confidence in them when bending/turning things. They're very compact at around 5" these little Knipex have quickly become one of my Everyday carry items.

I'd like to know how and where you all carry these.

I wear 5.11 Tac-lite Pro pants or shorts almost every day, and they have a small, vertical pocket that is just right for a 5" Knipex.  But it also rides just fine in the bottom of a front pocket on most pants.  You can handle 3 oz or 85 grams.  Do I use them often?  No.  But I like having them there just in case.  My most recent use was to tighten up a nut on a lawnmower wheel.  Its nice to take care of something like that when the need arises.  I slightly prefer the Pliers Wrench over the Cobra, as the former has smooth jaws that don't chew up the nut or bolt.

Frailer, I ordered a pair of the XS Cobras too.  It does not appear to have that adjustment button, but we must all make sacrifices during these trying times.

They have a slightly different adjustment mechanism than the rest of the Cobra range, but looks functional...

Wow. Those little XS pliers look tempting.

I’m not an EDC pliers guy...except for the Vic SAK ones.

But I love the Knipex products. And their Pliers Wrench line is awesome. I was already hooked by their Cobra line. Incredible leverage from even the 5” 125mm pliers.

The smooth jaws are great for fasteners you don’t want to mar. Leverage is nearly equivalent to adjustable jaw wrenches

Yeah, I reckon I'm going to need to get a pair of those.

I carry a 4" shifting spanner (crescent wrench / adjustable wrench/spanner) at work, and these look vastly more capable and versatile

I changed out my LM Charge for this. Very very rarely regret not having more tools that close to hand, the knipex are far better pliers and it's significantly lighter and less bulky in the bag. The SAK was on person anyway.

I just did some searching, and you’re absolutely right; many of the online reviews are negative.

If memory serves this is only the second time I’ve purchased from them, but I had no issues. I ordered the XS pliers and a set of 8” Knipex diagonal cutters late Sunday night. My order shipped on Monday from Alaska and arrived in Kentucky on Thursday. No issues at all.

I just realized I should have been more clear when I described this as a “great source.”  By that I meant you can find things there that are difficult to locate elsewhere. While my experiences have been positive, I did not mean to imply endorsement of the proprietors or their business practices.

I’ve been browsing ktool.net as a possible source.  Looks like they have the Cobra XS in stock, but haven’t ordered from them before either.
