Very old (looks like to) brown leatherman PST sheath
on: January 29, 2026, 06:20:32 AM
I found an old LM sheath, which I assume, regarding the size, that it was for a pst.

It's a brown one, not a black.

My interrogations are :

- what was really in this sheath ?
- should I keep it like that (and doing nothing particular with it), or
- should I try to restore it (cleaning, oiling, whatever..)

What would you do, leather workers ?

Thank you for your advices  :salute:

Ha, I just commented on your other post on leather, this sheath doesn’t look to bad, the rivets seam to be holding it together, the only part that looks bad is that good cut in the flap, I have no clue as to what was in it beside a leatherman since it has the name on it,, but I’d say it’s a usable one, give it a good rub down with mink oil to give it some life,

In any case you should treat it with a product that would feed the leather - something with natural oils and/or waxes.
Besides that, depending on your skills and available materials, you can reinforce the flap by glueing (and may be stitching) another piece of leather on the inside of the entire flap. Leave a hole in the reinforcement piece for the button.

Looks fairly sound, even with the cut on the flap.  I think I would put a couple of coats of brown shoe polish on it.  Best wishes.  G

Thanks to you all  :hatsoff:

I'll try to clean it carefully with some leather "soap" (?), and then, an oil of, heu... cow foot ?

I saw that on amazon, it feeds the leather. I would like to make the leather stiffer, perhaps by softening it, by putting a PST inside it, until it takes its shape, and retains it.

I have bought an other old leather sheath, that I absolutely don't know what it was designed for :D

Instead of making an other thread, as I don't want to flood the forum ( :D ), I'm going to post here the pictures of this sheath.

If someone has any idea, I'll take it  :salute:

Here's the LM leather sheath I've just bought.

It seems to be an old one, and I don't know what was it designed for.

Thick leather, asymmetrical case (elastic section on only one side).

If someone knows whats it's being for, I'll take any ideas  :hatsoff:

Ah good ! I've got a Gen2 too (2005), it came with an other leather sheath with elastic parts on both sides. But I prefer this one, it seems to be much quality-made, the leather is thicker, I don't know, I prefer the this one :)

Thank you for you answer, helped me !
