:gimme:I saw this on their website and it looks cool, but I heard it's not as good as it's claimed to be. Anyone know about it. I really want one

I actually have played with one at the last Rendevous I went to. Some guy was throwing his at the Hawk block and it was pretty stout. I dont think it would be a bad thing, plus it is a proven design. It has been a copy of the Soviet shovel they have been issuing for years.

Thanks. I think I will probably go for it, as it seems like a useful tool to have.

I had one, and it's great.  As a weapon, I'd consider it a last ditch thing, but as an emergency or camp shovel it's great.  There's a special technique to using a small shovel like that- first, stab it into the ground to loosen up the dirt, then once it's broken up, scoop it out.  You have to do it that way since there's very little leverage on such a short handle.  I wouldn't want to do any extensive gardening with it, or attempt to shovel my driveway, but for an emergency thing to keep in your trunk or with camping/hiking gear, I doubt you'll find one better.

I got one last year, nice stout little sucker. I know several that say it throws well too!
I need to get a sheath for mine, I'll probably get a custom kydex with an attached small
blade (combo) sheath.

Defdude,

If you like the shovel and are interested in its combative qualities the can I suggest to you the art of Sombo or Sambo.

Russian wrestling form that utilises various forms of "weaponry".  I have studied this whilst at Uni and it was very destructive in its capabilities.  >:D
