:like: I was a bit disappointed that the Hunter rather than cadet was this years LE, but that looks awlsome, think I’ll not be able to resist much longer

It has taken me years of carefully orchestrated neglect to have a yard full of weeds ( clover, actually) instead of grass.

Day 23 and it’s Sunday.  I likely won’t use either of these cutting tools.

Kabar FH attended snack duty.  I love nuts, it's a great snack I often eat, especially when I am dieting.

It's an Above The Tie Windsor razor and it is a fantastic tool of whisker removal.

Day 23:

First thing, was I got yesterday's mail. In it was the Mercator's brother from another mother, the French Douk-Douk. This was the cheapest one I could find. I think the "regular" Douk is similar in size to the Mercator, but this one is just 3 3/8 closed. Not small by my metric, just a decent size for an EDC. I don't get the Amazon reviews calling this a "
tiny" knife. If it were under 2.5", it would be in my opinion.

The Mercator and Douk Douk are both simple, no-frills working knives that are made well for the money ($25 doesn't buy very many good European-made knives these days). I've become really more inclined to choose these as my working knife--over the Buck 110 and similar; multiblade traditional folders, or even a fixed blade. Simply built, but strong and lightweight. I see several old, and nearly used up examples for sale. They definitely will last a lifetime, all the while costing about half the average CV Case Trapper these days. I'm most impressed by these two metal handle designs.  They almost always have carbon steel blades as well. I've tried the popular Opinels, and hated them (they're like carrying a banana in your pocket due to the wide, round handle). I've tried the Svords, and really do like them despite being bulky (easy to clean, great steel, CHEAP!!); Can't wait to try the Higonokami, but am not a fan of the friction folder design (at least with the Svord, I can tighten the screws to lock the blade).  Oh, and did I forget to mention the odd blade shape is great for detail cuts?!!

Also checked some fences on my day off from the big fence redo job, and they were a mess. Since we rarely use the highest field in the mountain, I decided to let these fences go until I could get some posts in. They were that bad. I was able to use my hammer and fencing pliers to get most of it cinched up. The Mercator is really replacing fixed blades. For less weight, and more ease in carrying, I lose just a quarter inch in blade over my old work knife, a Mora Robust Pro Carbon.

A few decades ago, it was usual to turn the Douk-Douk into a fixed blade. You'd just hammer the handle shut, so as to keep the blade open. It would turn the knife into a small dagger.

DAY 23:

After awl this talk, here's my hunter with my (so far) only Douk-Douk. Never use it much, the thinness of the handle makes it not very confortable to use. Still, slices like smurf. I like the full 90º stop.

No use today, just posting next to a chocolate I got from a restaurant with Mrs, and thought it was a pretty interesting piece.

Comis, any restaurant that gives you chocolate is interesting.  That's a rule.

Deathtakeslast, how's it going with the BK40? Nice Lanyard by the way.

I might as well call this my shot of the day.  I'm trying to work out details for a Folding Hunter (other than a Buck 110) badge.  It's a work in progress.

Day 24, opened up a cheap multitool for the beater/workhorse pile. I have to admit, it's got great scissors. But only passable pliers, and as usual, an awful file.
