Nice work, y’awl! In the Northern Hemisphere, it’s Happy Spring Equinox! Echotech, hope the rain isn’t as bad as forecast - 8” sounds like a real deluge....

Day 20

Postie came early this morning  :mail: used the scissors on the FX to open a package containing a Wenger Soldier ‘72 (blade has seen plenty of work and someone had polished the heck out of it - thankfully it’s the scales I’m mainly interested in with this one) with counter clockwise Waffen Kontrole stamp, the last model I’m missing for the 9 Soldier line up  :woohoo:

Interesting. All UK Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) is done online so no "disc" is displayed. However, it doesn't cover insurance or any other legal requirements  :dunno:

yeah,we're a little behind here.
this is the vehicle license which registers the vehicle with the "Road Traffic Inspectorate"/vehicle licensing dept.insurance isn't compulsory, legally, here.
failure to register/renew [annual renewal] incurs penalties when renewing, and traffic fines if stopped or inspected.
we have to renew driver's licenses every five years.

Hey guys. I have to forfeit this challenge, family matters. I'm sorry. Life has gotten hectic and I don't have the time to take photos, post and keep up. It was a fun 18 days though! Good luck to all.

Did you modify that pen? It looks identical to mine, and I had to assemble it from two Zebra pens.

No mod, bought it like that. I think Zebra realized that a lot of people modded their pen to this state, and then manufactured it accordingly. It is all metal now, including the clicker mechanism  :tu: I bought another one the other day, just in case i lose this one. Best pen i have ever had  :like:

Trial run. I had to buy proper India ink. All I had was cartridge pen inks!

...

I haven't drawn anything with a Swiss Army Knife dipped in India ink in years, and back then it was with the small blade on a Huntsman or Climber or something. The large blade takes some getting used to. Next time I'll do pencils first so I can get something less janky out of it.

Hey, that looks pretty darned good for a knife sketch!  You've got some talent.

Might the awl work?

DAY 20

As today is a Six Nations fest, with the exception of the "missing match" (planned for the 26th  ) I thought I'd post early, as I will mostly be shouting/swearing at the TV >:(

Today the FX helped open my invite for my COVID jab. However, I've already booked my 1st & 2nd (next week & then June)

Still, can't fault the progress here in good ol' Blighty  :tu:

You know me... awlways trying to crunch numbers.  I looked through all the posts from Day 1 to date, and counted the number of times you awl reported a particular tool as used.
- In some cases, you didn't explicitly say which tool you used, so I took my best guess on what you used (or could have used) Eg. the spine of the saw as a Ferro rod striker.
- If you mentioned simple food prep, as many of you did, I counted that as the blade.
- Some of you mentioned opening packages, and if you didn't say which tool you use, I gave to the one that you used for the same before; or if you showed the packages I chose based on which tool made sense to use (envelope vs box)
- some of you showed pictures of projects that you were working on, so I counted similar tasks as 1 use, but distinct tasks as separate uses.
- notably, explicit or implicit use of tweezers was mentioned twice.
- the saw was mentioned a a few times as "just for fun".  I counted each of those "scenarios" as one use.
- I only went through the thread once so there are probably a few errors
- halfway through I had to stop and open a packet of Gummy Bears (I wonder why ).  I used the Champion scissors, because they are on my computer desk.

So here it is:

Blade - 74
Scissors - 60
Awl - 35
Bottle opener/Large SD - 32
Can opener/Small SD - 19
Saw - 10

Mrs Nix asked for an assist with the removal of a safety seal. The FX was only too happy to serve.

Thanks! I have no innate talent whatsoever, but practice sure helps.

Good question about the awl. I did try it, but the ink flows much better when I draw with a cutting edge.

Turns out pens are the real heroes, though!
