Is the opening hole well chamfered like the Victorinox 111mm?  Maybe by the end of the challenge, you could do a mod to rough up the opening hole slightly, and it may make the opening a bit easier?

It's not like a 111mm in smoothness of opening or hole chamfer.  The pivot could do with a lot of smoothing out.  I'll try the lazy man's solution first (oil).  If I get amitious I'll take it apart and have a look at what's going on in the pivot.

Good use and love the spirit! :tu:   Such is the dilemma for a 'hammer' MT like this, too heavy and no one wants to carry it, too light it doesn't get the job done easily.

Thanks comis :tu:

I experienced two things this afternoon: one of the implements failed to perform a job properly and then the MT almost sufferred mechanical failure.

First, I tried using the saw and it failed miserably. I was installing sconce light fixtures in a bathroom and had to cut out holes for the support boxes. My hole saw is 3-1/2" (about 8.9 cm) in diameter, the support boxes are 3-5/8" (about 9.2 cm) in diameter. Normally this difference presents no problem. The hole saw tends to cut a slightly larger hole in drywall which receives the box with no trouble. However, these walls had shiplap installed. The holes were slightly too small. I needed to cut out a bit of the shiplap along the perimeter so the boxes would fit. So I tried to use the TripSaver saw.
The saw blade is basically a flat piece of metal with backward facing saw teeth cut into it. The teeth are not offset. Try I as I might, I could not get the saw to bite into the shiplap. I had to pull out my Multiforce knife, which has a saw much like the Wave's saw, to get the job done.

Later, I pulled the MT out and one of the pivot screws for the plier head fell out. It does not appear to have any threadlock installed. I really was not expecting that. Fortunately, the screw was not lost and I reinstalled it.

DAY 2

Not a very exciting day today, so no real use  :dunno:

I considered how large & bulky the OHT is & took a shot of it with the palm trees in the garden
Baby Palm tree!  That thing is going to be gigantic when it all grow up. :tu:

A thought I’ve had regarding cargo pocket carry is a thin flexible molle panel sized to the pocket.  I got the idea from Raven Concealment.  This would allow attaching various tools interchangeably, but keep all in a easy grip orientation.  I just haven’t found the right material at the right pr
(Image removed from quote.)

This is a new style one.  Instead of being all paracord, it has a front panel with pocket for a cooling pack if desired during the hot summer.
(Image removed from quote.)
That molle panel is a pretty decent idea, I think I would like it even more when it could be loaded onto a backpack or slingbag.  I used to make an oversimplified pocket organizer with kydex, but the issue with that is weight and the imprint.  My absolute ideal organizer is to have many pockets to fit whatever tool I want in it.

A cool pack in a paracord dog harness?  That's really well thought out, and definitely marketable! :tu:

Why I don't recall this at all?  But in terms of EDCing Annihilator 2000 on a daily basis, yes, yes, yes!  :woohoo:

Day 3

Here we have the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. :D
I was thinking of using the Coast for this challenge, but people talked me out of it. It would have been painfully difficult to try and use the Coast for a month. The Flik has its quirks, flaws, and limitations, but it is still a usable tool. Sure, the Coast is much more comfortable, but its implements are barely usable.

I just came off the Traditional challenge, and as you probably know, most traditional knives are peened together at the pivots.  A newly acquired old timer was kinda stiff at the pivot, so I end up putting a little bit of metal polishing paste around all the contact area for the pivot, and that did help smooth things out a bit.  But since the Swisstech has a screw pivot, it's probably much easier to deal with.

Mail call was all the S557 was called upon for.

The nail file makes a fine letter opener and the knife blade cut through the packing tape like a hot knife through...packing tape.   :dunno:

Inside the box was a little-used Wenger Traveler. I promise not to use it until next month.

Daredevil Day 3: I think the heat and humidity finally killed our old keypad deadbolt, so replacement was in order.  Normally I would use a screwdriver, but it's Daredevil month, so I gave it a shot.  The screwdriver was long enough to access the screws for the deadbolt through the thick battery housing on the inside of the door, which was somewhat surprising given it's odd, widening shape.  When install the same sort of screw in the new lock, it started going downhill.  Whoever makes the actual parts (China) doesn't really clean out the threads, and while one went in easily, I reached a point where I could not turn other at all using the  Swiss+Tech.  It really felt like the tool was going to give out.  I switched to a Kobalt ratchet screwdriver, which I thought might strip out, having done that to one of their ratchet end wrenches, but it drove the screw in easily.  Larger grip and more leverage won the day.

To be fair, I doubt my Leatherman PST would have worked better than the Swiss+Tech, and if the lock were finished better, the Swiss+Tech would have been all I needed for both large and small screws.

Yep, Swiza.

It's the D04, which is kinda their take on the Tinker. Back when Swizas came out, they were a lot more expensive than their equivalent Victorinox models  (about double), but I just so happened to find this one (only offered in black) on sale for $20 about a year or two after they came out. They're decent knives, but I've never been able to give up SAKs for one, and the full range has never been really available in the US. And the Phillips is #0/ #1 not #1/#2 like SAKs. I do like that they have a one-hand opening blade in what is just a little bit larger (95mm) than a 93mm frame as opposed to a 111mm-size knife, which is really too big for EDC. The new SH09TR really gets my attention.

The Phillips is one of the better features of the NXT 8) It had a good reach, good bite and the lock holds well :salute: I tightened a loose clip on a Dealt battery drill and it performed well :D

Wow, looking at the lineup, it seems like Swiza has been keeping themselves rather busy.  I like the model you are posting, but I probably would favor a plain edge over the serration.  But for collectability, I'd think the one you have posted or this one would be up the list:

(it's almost like GEC doing the Beer and Sausage, anyone putting a hoof tool and comb right next to each other in some way does make this a little novel.) :D

Day 3

Haven't been back in the office for the longest time, got myself a hearty breakfast to start the day.  I used not to carry alcohol wipe/sanitizer on person, but due to pandemic, this has become a habit and it does come in handy when cleaning the main blade for food.

The crazy heavy Wetols does bang around my knee quite a bit, and very noticeable if I am walking fast.  It's probably going to be okay for a day or two, but it may be a different story after a week or two.  I probably will put that in some kind of oversized slip or pocket organizer to cushion it a bit.

Thanks for the suggestion, I live in a pretty urban densely populated area, so sheath carry often may attract unnecessary attention.  Right now I am planning to stuff it in a Nurse organizer and potentially put it in my pants upper right pocket...

I know what you mean. I usually just keep multi-tools in their sheaths, in my cargo pocket. I usually keep other things, packets of tissues, shopping bags and other soft stuff, to keep the pocket full and keep the tool from bouncing around.

Also, I liked your dance. :D
