Day 04
I used the partially serrated knife blade to open a bag of Cypress mulch.  Knife blade is not very sharp so it ripped the bag open more than sliced it.  I will have to give it a touchup.

DAY 4

The OHT was spirited into work on the QT where it assisted with deniable ops (repairing a battery pack)

Day 4

IMG-20210804-WA0017 by Humayd a r Mahomedy, on Flickr

a friend asked me to help him out with his RCBS Uniflow powder measure.
it was in storage and seized due to corrosion.
the large driver/pry was perfect for the slot head screws
Good uses! :tu:

Do you think it has more to do with the serration than being dull?  I recently watched a youtube vid from Felix testing serration vs non-serrated Vic blade, turns out they perform quite evenly(much to my surprise).  But still, plain edge is that much easier to maintian.

Day 4

The S557 did a better job with lunch today.

The scissors cut through a grape vine fine, so they seem to be OK with firmer things.

And the knife blade had no problem slicing a tomato.

That's one of my cases for the Multimaster family. I think that outside of real pliers, they have the toughest ones in the business. Even a bit more than the older SOG Toolclips, but their high value, even in POS condition puts the latter out of reach for most; when it seems Multimasters used are a hard sale.  Like I said before, I paid $20 for three! Multimasters together (along with a Chinese clone Utica sold in their advertising merchandise business) and almost $60 for a well-used and abused Toolclip. And $30 for the Micro, which replaced one I paid about the same for and lost.

That handle looks a bit short to me. The scissors on a tool are the make or break for the most part. It seems that with multitool producers, the saw, file, and scissors are the most common to get wrong.

The scissors in Gerber tools are Fiskars scissors.  They may be small but they will cut.

Day 4, some of the finds I opened up today.

A lot of these are castings that lasted in some form up through about 2000 or so.

Matchbox had a Bomag roller, Atlas Excavator, and Faun heavy dump truck. But, by the late 1980s, they'd lost their licensed badging and became generic. These three castings were introduced when MBX was still being made in England, and were shuffled around. The Atlas was recently modified, and was still being used as recently as a couple of years ago. Faun lost its metal bed in favor of a plastic one about 2008, and then the pivoting bed was replaced with a fixed plastic water tank a few years ago. The Bomag was retired in the early 2000s. This Bomag is made in England, so it's an early one.

HW released some very nicely done Caterpillar models in the early 1980s (along with a Grove crane and Oshkosh P-15 ARFF airport fire truck) that are miles ahead of Matchbox. I think mine is one of the first releases, as the CAT badge and "777B" the model number is cast in, which got removed in all subsequent releases.  It's also all metal, while the MBX Faun had a plastic chassis--its' metal on the HW.

The D-10N  has rubber treads and friction sleeve hydraulic cylinders. Beats the heck out of MBX's D9 they had at the time. Ironically, after Mattel bought MBX, some of these HW castings (including the 777B) were released as Matchbox in about 1999-2000 or so.

I had a CAT branded Tinker Small that was period correct to these CATs; but I gave it away to a friend of mine who operated CAT equipment for more than 30 years in the coal mining industry. I am guessing a dealer had ordered these, as I haven't seen another. The CAT logo was inlaid, and was the old style "CATERPILLAR" logo before the simple "CAT" with the triangle became common.

Day 5

Used the can opener’s “sharp” edge, (sharp in inverted commas as it’s quite blunt), to open package with an old slide lock Hunter in it. Will have to try to open an actual can before the month’s out.
Quite like the little serrated edge on the tool but not sure what you’d use it for, cutting cord maybe

The Hunter isn’t in bad nick apart from the scales and was fairly cheap, like a slide lock and fancied a Hunter, might replace the scales if I can get the Hunter specific ones but no biggie. Needs a really good clean though
