I'm not sure what Freud would say, but I always enjoy seeing a good cigar!
Freud was attributed with saying "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." possibly around 1920. He may or may not have said it but it has been attributed to him. The saying does seem to suggest that sometimes a cigar might represent something else.
In 1885, Rudyard Kipling wrote a poem called The Betrothed in which he stated "... a woman is only a woman, but a good Cigar is a smoke."
