Well done Simon. It's important to keep these tools tested regularly

Absolutely.  I wonder how long the CS would hold up if it were subjected to daily use...hm, we might have to set up a challenge 🤔. All in the name of science, obviously

Unlike the picture suggests, that's not a strange(r) thing to do, actually. Slide lock Hercules are the best! :tu:

I didn't think this would be the case, but I actually prefer the slide lock.  It's handy and can be easily used with gloves on.

I prefer my liner-lock Outrider to my side-lock Outrider.

So far...the liner-lock Hercules has been great.

I really like the locking cap lifter, although, I will confess, I've never really had an issue with a non-locking cap lifter.

1/11, or 11/1... depending on what side of the pond you're on

No uses today
Just a bit nostalgic for days gone by, wishing I had discovered the 111mm line many decades ago.  I'd have put this to good use then.

Day 11

Other than the frequent cutting and bottle opening tasks, the Outrider helped in installing a new clip on my flashlight.  I used the awl to cut the zipties holding the old clip on, then used the small can opener tip to remove an o-ring.  I also needed a dremel to widen the ring of the clip and a pair of pliers (Spirit) to adjust a connector spring slightly.

Day 12: more of the same. Also did some package opening of household necessities.

KIMG3301 by cody6268, on Flickr

I also opened this oddball; a Gerber Chameleon. I was curious about how the hole would work out. The knife is really awkward feeling, and it is a pain in the arse to clean. But, it's definitely an oddity for the collection. The blade doesnt' appear to be bent, but it's stiff and rubbing the handle, and I've cleaned and oiled it 3-4 times already.

I too wonder why the 111mm's weren't on my radar when I was younger. I settled in on a 93mm and a larger folder, but a 111mm may well have been a better option.

Day 11
I needed to trim a tree today, but I made sure this was empty first. I can't have abandoned homes becoming a blight on the neighborhood.  It's a shame too because it would have been a good starter home for a young family or the perfect size for empty nesters looking to downsize.

Day 12

Organizing for tomorrow morning.  I am going to carry the Rucksack, putting the Skipper back in the drawer.  It's just a bit too big for me during the week to carry and the Phillips is harder to get to.  Looking forward to a few days of this Rucksack.

Have a good Tuesday all.

More lovely pics and uses!

Day 12

Used the main blade of my rescue tool to free some more peanuts for the wildlife in my garden! Scissors would have been my tool of choice for this job, but the blade worked well enough - but the scales positively shone in the gloomy light this morning!

Nice sack you got there, I like your nuts!

Well, technically peanuts aren't nuts. But well done, I should put up some bird feeders too.

Very good, Reinier, Well, technically almost everything we call nuts aren’t nuts, but peanut or ground nuts are a particular favourite of the squirrels and woodpeckers round here - most of the other birds prefer the sunflower hearts, though the fat blocks will be more popular in the Spring.
