DAY 13

Back at work today, after dealing with some other stuff.

I'm not sure of the protocol for catching up on posts so, unless anyone wants to differ, I'll keep to the actual challenge day/date (for continuity) and then post the missing days when your challenge is over  :dunno:
So, that said, here's the Rescue-Tool helping to slice some cheese (badly) for Mrs Surge who advised  :twak: that she was desirous of some "Cheese on Toast" (British Style")
This is one of her concessions to British cuisine and is very different to the version favoured by our US cousins (grilled cheese)

It is AWLWAYS served with Lea & Perrins (lest it be thrown upon my face :ahhh ) and AWLWAYS with one more slice than asked for (4, not 3 in this case :pok: )

Once again, thank you awl for your comments and messages. They really are appreciated and part of what makes this a community and not "just another forum"

You people are awlsome  :tu: :salute:

Excellent Surge but for one small point. The Lea & Perrins is essential obviously ... what’s the cheese please? Questions Awlways Questions ...

Ooooh, I like your recipe.  :tu:
:hatsoff: I'd love to take the credit but I suspect it's lost in the mists of time  :dunno:

FYI; if the pronuncitation of Worcestershire Sauce is baffling anyone (who's not of this sceptered aisle) then it's basically "Wuus-tər-shər" or, if you want to sound more local, it's just "Wuustar Sauce"
(but it must, MUST be Lea & Perrins, don't go cheap or generic :twak: )

Also check out Welsh Rarebit (you'll thank me) proper comfort food  :tu:
NB: You can never have "too much" sauce
They don't like it up 'em!

I've been meaning to have some proper welsh rarebit inasmuch as I can stateside.  There's a pub that serves it around here, But I can't bring myself to shell out half the cost of a Victorinox Hiker for .... ehem.... cheese on toast...  :pommel:  I've thought about making my own but it's one of those things that really needs a point of reference before trying to recreate at home.

Agreed on both counts, Surge! A bottle of L&P was one of those things that was always in my luggage when going on a posting - works a treat in cottage/shepherd’s pie too!

Give it a go - plenty of recipes on the interweb, and adapt till you get it as you like it!  :tu:

Welsh Rabbit (as it is called here) is a regular item on the menu....if we have good bread. Sauce, bacon, toast. Tomato optional. This is very closely related to a brilliant American sandwich, the Kentucky Hot Brown: cheese sauce over, turkey, bacon, tomato (optional-ish), and bread.  If only the Welsh had though to add turkey......they'd be famous.

Nah, think 'succulent cheese sauce' and you're there. Basic roux, cheese, splash of porter or stout, a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce, a good dab of mustard, pinch of cayenne, a few grinds of pepper.   :tu:

Outrider definitely getting the most use but prefer Adventurer for pocket carry …probably unsurprisingly

Not much so far, taking the foil off some Advil and a sleepy Coco who’s not quite herself last 24 hours

How do you like the Outrider, Alan?
I like it very much. It has the same tool set as a Huntsman but everything is slightly bigger and the main blade locks.  What's not to like?  Now, decisions, decisions. The big question is which 111mm SAK should I get next? :dunno:

She’s quite old for a big dog (nearly 11) and has her ups and downs.
In October the vet told me she was in very good condition for her age but that she is getting on a bit basically.

She was awake much of the night, very unusual, and I can tell not quite her normal happy self. Hopefully nothing serious but will be keeping a very close eye on her, cheers mate

I’m loving my outrider too, got it just before the challenge. The other 111’s I really like at the moment are the slimmer ones for pocket carry, Adventurer being the man one, might be worth considering Alan

Nice  :like:

Glad to see USPS are working again, i have a package somewhere in the midwest that hasn't moved since the 28th  ::)

Day 13

(Image removed from quote.)

I'm real confused. Why is it so irregular? Friday, I had a package from OR (padded envelope) that took barely two days to get from there to me in VA. That same day, a package that had been sent to me a week before from Wisconsin (a Medium Flat Rate sized box) just showed up. And, an OC Farmer is now overdue as well; which I was hoping would be in my  mailbox today.

Day 14. Was out and about (and with my grandparents getting the first dose of the COVID vaccine today; we slowly plan to return to doing more things, but large stores and eating in a restaurant are still out); so I decided to go with my "all-arounder" 111mm, the Outrider.   Did a lot of cutting; but also used the scissors to open this up.

Tractor Supply's post-Christmas toy clearance is really starting to get good; so I decided to look at the Breyer horses and diecast again. What they had in tractors and machinery wasn't really my cuppa tea; mostly super-low end toy grade stuff (which I don't collect). So, I went to the end of the aisle where the horses were.  I had enough Stablemates already; the one Classics horse (a Tractor Supply exclusive I may pick up next week) I wasn't really interested in, but I noticed a horse whose name seemed familiar to me (I think I can recall reading about him in a magazine), and compared to most Traditional-scale horses, he was most definitely different; GTR Patrick's Vindicator; or Patrick as he seems most known.  Mainly because he's a miniature horse. If I am not mistaken, the mold used for him is the smallest adult horse Traditional mold Breyer uses.

Here's Big Chex to Cash; a quarter horse for comparison. I've had this guy many, many years. I think I got one of the first ones of this horse Breyer made. I know he's been a staple of the lineup for several years now.   Patrick is tiny in comparison.
