111mm Day 14:

My first real FAIL with the Hercules.

I tried to use the pliers to remove the battery from my truck. It was a no go. To be fair, even with proper tools it was more of a challenge than I would have expected.....and why did I need two wrenches and a socket....all different sizes.....to remove one battery?   :poh:

Also to be fair, I don't think a LM Wave or Vic Spirit would have been of much more help. So this was more of a multitool fail than a Hercules fail.   :dunno:

(Image removed from quote.)

I had to use my second-biggest pair of Channellocks (12") when I had to undo the 10mm cable clamp nut from my 1998 Dodge RAM.   It wasn't corroded or stuck, either. It was a fairly new battery cable that had been put on when the battery was changed two years prior. Sounded like exactly what happened with me. Why is it a truck made in Michigan, by an American company would have  Metric battery cable clamp nuts in the first place?  I had used the MT I had on me, my 6" adjustable from my compact toolkit, various pliers, wrenches, and sockets.

But, where SAK pliers win is those areas where every danged other pliers you've got won't fit. Basically, the only two I have that work as good are 1950s Kraeuter "Telephone pliers (with about three-inch duckbill jaws) and the Channellock E318 electrician's pliers (long needlenose). I mostly use and carry linesman's pliers.

Day 14:

Used the Hercules to cut up some cheesy smoked sausages to add to my rice. That’s dinner at work tonight.

I’ve been using the Hercules so much because I often need the pliers at work.  When removing the tape from the adhesive strips in the little letter covers that i install on the cars, sometimes the tab tears or is just too little for my sausage fingers. Thus I use the pliers to pull the tape out.

I’ll leave the Herc here tonight and take a different 111mm to work. Hmmm, which one??

The Centurion has a pocket clip, that makes it much easier to carry and use at work.

The Garants are really cool.  The Locksmith is great, but a bit heavy for pocket carry without a clip.

I think I’ll grab my US Soldier.  Yeah, that’s it!!

Here’s the Hercules cutting food...

And the new work carry...

I think the Vic pliers area niche tool. But, where they work, they work well.  :tu:

Great use and interesting hand warmer.  I’ve seen lighter fluid ones, but not charcoal.  I think Zippo now makes lithium battery powered ones but don’t know how good they work

Checking if any of my pineapples are in fruit and they are not, but I did find a tiny little tree frog living in this one.  He's barely visible above the Outrider. His back is to the Outrider.  I probably should have taken the picture from the other side.

Day 15: some new additions. The Waiter with the "Turley" company logo will go to a friend of mine with that last name. Seller cleaned, oiled, and sharpened it; so I don't have to do that. I left it in the Ziploc bag it was shipped in and will give it to my friend that way. The OC Farmer, however, is mine. Scored it on the super-cheap ($35) from another forum's store page here recently. It's seen hard use for a short time--the snap is mildly mushy sometimes, due to slight mushrooming on the liners and inside of the scales. The blade was chipped up, but as usual with Vic steel, sharpened out easily. Oddly, saw looks to have never been used; and still has some of the burrs. And the Alox isn't that worn.

I like my lighter fluid one as once its fired up it goes all day, i had to burn two sticks of charcoal today, first lasted about 3 hours but i lit it both ends as the weather was pretty wild in the morning, second lasted about 4 hours so not too bad, the charcoal does smell a bit though but it's not really noticeable when you are outside, when i replace these i may look into the battery ones  :tu:

You have to love inconsistencies in sizes.  I went to an O’Reilly’s for a battery and they offered to voluntarily install it.  I ended up wishing I had just went to the dealership because I all the issues the guy was having with different sizes and brackets etc.
I had to use my second-biggest pair of Channellocks (12") when I had to undo the 10mm cable clamp nut from my 1998 Dodge RAM.   It wasn't corroded or stuck, either. You are correct on the SAK pliers shining in the small stuff.

As far as the metric nut on your “Made in America” truck, the answer is probably that some of the parts were manufactured in Mexico or Canada.  I wouldn’t have thought it went as far back as 1998, but idk.  I know nowadays there may not be a lot of difference in some foreign cars and cars from American companies as far as how much is “Made in America”.  At on point I had a Nissan made in Tennessee, yet several American companies have models made in Mexico and Canada.

Even though my truck was produced before Dodge started making some of the RAM models in Mexico; the majority of the plastic parts on my 1998. are Mexican-made.

Day 13
Playing catch up again, I’m really not doing well this challenge. Sorry if it’s a bit redundant, not much real work going in these days. And it’s cheese...
Cheese is real work, especially for the cheese master

Cheese makes everything right with the universe.
:agree: I love cheese.  My Aunt owns a cheese shop and every time I go to visit, she will give me a bag of small (2-4oz) chunks of different cheeses.

Day 14

Thursday and Friday are my nights to prepare dinner as we shuffle the dinner prep between 4 of us.  Prepping potatoes, carrots, and Brussel sprouts for a veggie dish to go with a pork loin tonight.

  pork loin and veggies

Day 14

So you said I could have two beers? Didn't work out. And I tried the biggest and baddest of all the openers on the Beast...

Here we go again, a cup of tea...

Looks like a good book, Love to hear your opinion

Day 14:
-19,9 celsius and dropping. We’ll probably have -25 to -27 on Friday morning. Winter is coming, make that has arrived :)
Time to polish off rest of my cheese plate with something nice:

Day 14

(Image removed from quote.)

Been a pretty busy day today, but when I come home, little guy urged me to open his toys for him and out come the 111mm to help with the task.  Just for precaution, I turned around and did the unpacking away from him, he was far too animated at his age, and I didn't want him to grab my knife while I am doing all the cutting.
Great use.  Knives and excited children can be a dangerous combo

Day 8 burger night. Took the photo earlier today when i defrosted the meat. Hope everyone is have a great day

Day 15

Brick: 1   John: Nil

Managed to trip over Coco and bash my toe into a brick. Hoping badly bruised rather than broken, had two broken toes about a year ago and had to wear a giant boot.

Made life very difficult as living alone, apart from Coco of course, means I have to be mobile. Wearing the boot put my back out and in some ways created more problems than it solved.

I’ve still got the boot but will try to keep going with it strapped up as per pics below. So far doing fine, it’s a bit sore if I try to bend it so obviously don’t bend it!

Can’t believe we are almost halfway through January and this challenge.

The Outrider had a few cutting tasks, but also used the saw for the very important task of trimming the tip off a bully to “refresh” it for Fisher

I know Fisher is spoiled, but isn’t that part of the fun of having a dog.
