Day 24:
Sentinel entering the stage.
Checked on my Timbersports axe’s and snapped a pic of my best one with the Vic. Temp. has risen from -25 to +3 so the outside air is very damp, this can also be seen on the blade.
Also noticed that license plate holder on the C-klasse has failed. Had no replacement ones, so it’ll have to hang with just one for awhile

Nice pics old Lefty! :like: :tu: :tu:

Sounds like you are having a heat wave.

Well it finally snowed here! :woohoo:Only 2” and doubtless it’ll melt soon enough, so I got out early and took the Rescue Tool because why not?! No actual use, oddly enough, but I did take a snowy shot

Nice shot Rizio! :like: :tu: :tu:

Day 24

Just hanging out, watering the potted plants.

I find that I'm less likely to use the screwdriver for small tasks, because it's a bit more trouble to open and close.  I suspect it's a somewhat situational thing since I'm not out and about as much.   For the number of times I used my old Buck for prying.... I should have been using this.

Three cheers for the Nomad.  Mine is a OHO Nomad with a serrated blade.  I haven't brought it in for the challenge (yet), since there's no real advantage over the Trekker (111mm Hiker) this month.  I could do with an even slimmer profile, for which I'll get an Adventurer (111mm Tinker)

DAY 24

Used the micro screwdriver on the Outrider to tighten the screw on  my glasses

That micro SD really comes in handy.... When you need it, you really need it.

So there was covering of white stuff here in west London today  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

I don't anticipate much use for the RescueTool today, despite the snow so, here it is just hanging about in a Christmas tree bought from M&S a few years ago which was re-potted and now lives in the garden  :D

The window shot might help to give some idea of why I have trouble justifying the carry of such a large blade in public (albeit in my pocket and not-with-standing our archaic laws  ::) )

Whatever you're doing today stay safe out there  :salute:

Nice picture!

I too am in a similar predicament as you... Perhaps worse, as just past my terrace, rather than a somewhat comforting view of a nice city... I can see nothing but a brick wall.  That doesn't bother me in the least under normal circumstances since I'm in the habit of finding myself surrounded by trees on random days often enough.

Soon .... SurgeUK.... Soon....

One of the best uses yet!

I've been pondering a SAK Boot Camp Challenge.    Come up with 30 predetermined tasks, and do them in 30 days.  Opening a coconut is definitely one of those 30 essential challenge tasks.

We can come up with the list ... And everyone can do them in the order that they want.  Some would be obscure but essential - opening a coconut would be chief among them.  Another would be sawing through metal.  Yet another might be opening any sort of panel to access the inner workings (I've watched too many MacGuyver episodes).  Some tasks would be common tasks that one may or may not generally do with a SAK, but are considered SAK tasks by virtue of the available tools - for example, scaling a fish, opening wine, or carrying a parcel.  A third category would be common tasks such as cutting string or rope, or tightening a screw.

The tasks can be done in any order, so they can be planned, and the more common uses can fill the gaps.

The only catch is... You have to choose one tool for the whole challenge.

The trouble is... We might all choose a Swisschamp.

Any thoughts?

Love the idea

I actually opened a coconut with my supertinker now in December when we were in a tropical island. It was not easy. That is why i asked about the de-husking.

I also like the idea of 30 unique everyday challenges. But limited it to the toolset of a huntsman/feildmaster. I believe most sak fans will have that toolset

Great idea! Especially since it's possible to drive a Phillips and pull a cork with a can opener...  Limiting it to that toolset (or the Swisschamp toolset) is a great idea.

Thank you for the recipe.  The Ancho Chiles are incredible.  As a former Texas resident (on two occasions), I am going to give it a try! :drink:
Please do, and I hope you'd enjoy this as much as I do! :tu:

Looks good comis!

Day 23
My new-to-me Slide Lock version of the Outrider arrived yesterday.  Both have the inline Phillips.
Some early ones didn't.
Here are their weights:
5.51 ounces Liner Lock
4.67  ounces Slide Lock

(Image removed from quote.)
Front of Slide Lock version:

I actually don't have the linerlock version of the Outrider, something I plan to get and may even mod someday.  Thanks for the weight difference, it's pretty surprising to see the ~1oz difference due to the liner.

Day 24

Hurt myself swapping scales  Well, at least I got my picture of the day now.
Yikes, hope it's not too serious.  One SAK that I always love to use for scale swapping is the Watchopener, or a really dull small blade.

Day 24

Just hanging out, watering the potted plants.

I don't know it's just me, but whenever I open the long, inline philips from 111mm, I have to be extra careful since it snap open so strong that it would sometimes give me a sore knuckle.

I opened a coconut in almost every challenge I'd been in, for almost couple of months now.  The hardest is using a SAK Classic, despite however careful I use the tool, I think it is inevitable the coconut may cause some play in the tool after the rough use.  But most 91mm could do the job admirably, if you know the trick to it.  Here's a video I made awhile ago for coconut opening with SAK:
