DAY 29

Sorry for my lack of posting today but. this lurgy (which I suspect IS NOT the dreaded one) has left me collapsed on the sofa  :surrender:

The postman delivered this years membership card (for a group I belong to) and the OHT helped to open the envelope.

Other than that, no actual use as no actual energy  ::)

I'll try and comment on all the other posts ASAP  :salute:

Is "lurgy" a British euphemism for "bottle of whisky"?

Day 23

Crazy day with the outrider. Was about 20km inland and saw 2 massive bull Elephants and wanted to take a pic with the sak, but thought it might be better if I leaved them alone and reversed. Yea I chickened out. Very rare to see them this far South not in a game park.

Used the knife to open some food and envelopes. Took a pic when I got back home so sorry for the overexposure.

Hope everyone is having a great day

Big elephants can be touchy. I once got a really nice scare courtesy of a big and testy elephant in Tanzania. Lovely and majestic critters though! I jealous that you got to spy a couple!   :tu:

Yup. brand new 929 PC in the box. I decided to give modern 9 mm revo with 8 in the hole a go as main comp. wheel gun. Not all feedback is good for either, Ruger or the Smith but decided to go the Smith route. Time will tell if wise choice

 :iagree:

I think the 111mm's are more 'knife' oriented and the Spirit is more 'pliers' oriented.

Because I use a knife more than the pliers, the 111mm's have great appeal for me.

Thanks Nix still smiling from seeing them. So glad you experienced some bit of Africa. Was it in Serengeti or ngorongoro.

For me the most amazing elephant experiences were in Hwange (best kept secret in southern Africa) and Chobe.

Ngorongoro....if memory serves....it was back in 1977.

Love Africa!  I lived in Zaire (now DRC) for a while. Great place, wonderful people.

Another battery change. Turnover is high in these Covid ridden times...  I will miss the Hercules' small Philips SD when I switch back to 91 mm after this challenge!

I am actually thinking about it. I carried the Hercules in my pocket this whole time and I didn't notice it any more than my CT 34. The problem is that I rarely need its 111 mm assets (large locking blade; large saw), so getting the small blade and the Cybertool driver back is tempting.

Day 29

(Image removed from quote.)
(Image removed from quote.)

Mrs did make this wonderful roast chicken without any help of my 111mm, but OHO trekker did help to serve the chicken at dinner table.  After the meal, I used the 111mm to slice open a coke can multiple times just as a small edge retention test.  And even though it can only barely cut receipt paper afterwards, I was able to bring it to paper shaving sharpness only stropping it for less than a minute.  Many knife enthusiasts do complain about 'soft' Vic steel is, if you need to break down many, many card boxes a day for the job, surely it probably isn't the most ideal tool for the job.  But for average day-to-day application, I like how stainless the steel is and how a quick touch up could bring it right back to full sharpness.

Just FYI: there is a contraption on top of the Coke can allowing you to open the can with nothing but your fingers! Quite ingenious, really. And it's a lot less messy this way too.

Decided it was a day to wear my Aero B-10 repro flying jacket with its alpaca lining but the RAF Hunter had a lazy day.

I think I'll join you with the Workchamp.  I like the toolset and it's on a belt sheath so I don't mind the weight.

Just read about it,  sounds fun. Problem is,  I'm a "SAK only" guy - all I have is my SAKs and two Leathermen my father gifted me (and which I never use).  :dunno:

Yeah.....you'd possibly need a traditional or modern folder. For the fixed blade category, kitchen or utility knives are permitted.
