Day 2: I have to say that the belt cutter makes an excellent small blade!  In this pic, I'm using it to open a package of mozzarella cheese sticks.  This blade is more useful than I thought it would be.  More to follow!

Great use of the belt cutter Barry! :like: :tu: :tu:

Bonus entry, used the Forester to open the Lego box:

Lego!  Freaking love em'!  And Sesame street is pretty new, I tried to get the little guy to watch more Sesame street, but right now he loves Peppy pig which I guess is the trendy thing to watch.

111mm Day 01:

Decided to start the New Year with a hike in the hills. Lovely day despite the shocking lack of snow.

(Image removed from quote.)

The Hercules didn't get used, but just tagged along. And I'm pleased to say it didn't slow me down.....too much.....

(Image removed from quote.)
Beautiful vista, I never get tired of seeing that.

So many good uses and pics everyone :like:

Looks like all of our NY resolutions are GTD with SAK :tu:

GTD is a philosophy I kind of follow and stands for getting things done, if you’ve not come across it. Invented by a Canadian guy called Dave Allen. I only loosely follow it but have found it’s made me much more productive at work.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getting_Things_Done
Thanks for that link, this looks a little complicated than a wiki could explain, but I gonna dig a little deeper into it.  With weight loss challenge and this new idea, I already felt like fulfilling some of my resolution in 2021.

Nice work and pics, everyone!

Day 2

DPD delivery first thing (thankfully I’d just got back from getting the paper!) - I used the awl on my Soldier 2019 to cut through all the sticky tape to free a new rucksack got at a tempting discount - a Fjallraven Singi Stubben which doubles as a seat (it has a frame inside it) when out on hikes - I hope to use it on birding expeditions in the spring, but it’ll obviously get tested out before then on walks with hot meal breaks later this month as there’s plenty of room for a jetboil, water and dehydrated pack of some flavour. They do make side pockets for it, but they’re out of stock at the moment, but at least one will be ideal for a flask of some kind!
I think I might have seen it's predecessor couple years back when I was visiting the flagship store in NYC, but this new one looks pretty clean and neat.  Look forward to your review sometime in the future!

Sure thing, Comis, if it hadn’t been on a decent discount I wouldn’t have got it. I have to say that I prefer the in-line awl to the backside one after cutting through all that tape! One to ponder on for the next mod.....

With the form factor of these 111mm though... Having trained extensively with the Lineage of the In-Line Awl of the Swiss Army Knights...  This back side awl that's tucked away unobtrusively is not too bad, and I'm glad to have it in without adding any bulk.  I just used it to open a box on both sides to flatten it.  It does hyperextend... Which isn't great.

But still... Any SAK tool is better than no SAK tool. I guess.  :dunno:

No doubt. Although I suspect Big Bird might have lost it, too.......perhaps why we don't see BB using a SAK more often.....  :dunno:

Took my Soldier out to help putting some grain out for the birds. Didn't use the main blade as it happens but the wood saw to help tidy up a sapling growing through the  release pen wiring.

Nice to see that belt cutter getting some novel use Barry !

The length of the saw blade in the 111mm's is a big plus for me.   :tu:

DAY 2

You awl have so many 111's I'm starting to think I need more (then I remember where I live  :poh: )

A rare usage shot from me. Mrs Surge was tidying the house, post Xmas, whilst I was out being a hero etc..
I was advised, upon my triumphant return,  :twak: that the handle on the back door was a bit loose  :ahhh

I fired up the Rescue Tool and all was good again  :tu: (until it isn't  ::) )

I'm in a similar boat as you, so to speak. With work being the only thing I do outside the house, I can't really justify carrying a 111mm these days.  But I will anyway

At least in your line of work, the rescue tool is justified... And with the standard tools that come on almost all SAKs, it makes for a decent EDC without too much thought.  That's a nice thing about the 111mm line, and why I like the Trekker so much for the outdoors.  I don't have to think about it I can handle the small stuff.  A few months ago when I was in the great outdoors I stopped in a sort of... shared rest area... where someone left a well used broom.

It's not every day you meet a loose screw in the wilderness or on an urban rescue assignment.  But when you do, it's nice to be able to fix it with a SAK designed for something specific.

That's the problem EB. The Rescue Tool was primarily bought, not issued, for my SAR stuff (voluntary role, not work) This means that outside my house/garden I would need to rely upon the UK "reasonable excuse" defence (i.e. SAR stuff on a live call out or organised exercise etc)

I can carry other stuff whilst on duty (i.e. my Surge, lock knife, baton etc) because I have "lawful authority" as they are issued by the UK Government. I have ministerial exemptions in place for these (and other things such as firearms etc) as I am a "Crown Servant"

Essentially, in the UK, you can carry a non-locking blade under 3 inches (7.62cm) without needing a reason, notwithstanding criminal intent etc. However, ANY locking blade (regardless of length) requires either "Lawful Authority" OR "Reasonable Excuse" and, the onus is upon me to provide proof of either.

However, unlike most of europe, OHO is not an issue (unless it's a locking blade OR over 3 inches) Both my knives fall foul on each account, unless either statutory defences apply.

Clear  :dunno:

(Sorry if that was an egg sucking exercise, but I don't know, what you know, about our messed up system  :D )

The Hercules' scissors and knife blade got used to cut and trim some packing materials and tape in the preparation of a small parcel to be shipped next week.  Love these scissors.  :tu:

Jack, are the scissors the regular 91mm length or are they bigger to fit the 111?

Interesting; I miss the 91 mm's small blade already. Too bad Vic doesn't seem to combine it with scissors this side of a Workchamp XL.

:iagree: That's the use I'm putting it to, Simon.  I haven't measured it yet, but I'd guess the blade lengths are similar.  I have the Swisstool RS for work.  Up to this point, the belt cutter hasn't seen any use.  Now I'm looking forward to trying it out.  The serrations are identical to the Trekker blade's.
