111mm Day 06 ( before sunrise, before tea, before full and complete wakefulness ):

(Image removed from quote.)

That's a situation where having a SAK handy can really make a difference   ;)

Do the more recent slide locks have the newer sized tools? I only have one and the bottle opener and can opener seem kind of ridiculous not having been scaled to the larger size.
Also I see what you mean about the bottle opener locking every time.  At least for me though that’s a trade I’m happy to make since some jobs I’ve done would’ve not been possible without the ability to lock the pry bar opener

No, I think the slide lock tools have never been updated. The sturdier bottle opener comes with the liner lock mechanism. The can opener is the same on both slide and liner locks anyway. I agree it would be nice to have 111 mm versions of all tools (larger scissors and pliers would be nice, also a longer awl and corkscrew), but I assume the current way is cheaper for Vic.

Ok thanks!  You're right about the can opener, I'd forgotten its the same.  And I do have 2 slide locks - the one I posted a photo of the other day doesn't have an opener layer, just the combo tool.  You forget (or at least I do!) when they are shelf queens and you don't use them much.  I really only use my GAK as a workhorse, and sometimes the Swiss soldier for light duty.  (And of course the cheese master!).  My Outrider is a bit too fancy to use much, but I will get it out just to get to know it better!

Day 6

Hunter Bottle Opener used as I continue to take down Holiday Stuff.  After unlugging  ???  the cords, I had to use it to get this plug out of the electrical tree.

DAY 6

Today, being Epiphany, is the day to take down the Christmas Tree. As I awl-ways insist on having a real one this meant a carpet of pine needles awl over the yard  ::)

I took the OHT intending to use the saw to assist but, although able to cut through branches, it shook the tree so much that it would have been totally bare before I'd even started  :ahhh

I had to reach for the proper shears, and saw (for the trunk) in the end but, it was worth a go  :dunno:

I have several knives with it, but haven't really put it to work.  The opener end of things is ok, but not quite as well as the regular can opener.  As a screwdriver it's not bad.
The downward angle makes it feel trickier to use, in my opinion.  I can understand, though, why it's on the Hunter.  On a survival knife, there are definitely bigger priorities for a downed pilot to worry about than tightening screws :D

Although I think it was vital for Burnett in "Behind Enemy Lines"  ... come to think of it he was undoing screws ...

Thanks  Rizio :tu: not sure how long it’s going to take, already been at it some time but at least like items are with likes, just not well sorted yet.
Keep coming across things I’d completely forgotten about (some I don’t recognise at all) which I’ve obviously kept in case they’d be useful …for the most part they haven’t!
Like you say, be really good when it’s done and make future projects a lot easier

…and then at some point I have to tackle the big one, 25+ years of studio equipment, this is my current rack (synths and computers not shown), I used to have about 3 times this, a lot has gone, a lot hasn’t! The cables alone take up four large crates :ahhh

Quite a few echo(tech) boxes hence the name

Day 6

Happy orthodox Christmas btw

Finally had some action today.

Here’s the story. Quite some time ago my lady’s car keying attachment started to fall apart. I tried glueing it with super glue but it lasted only for a few days before falling apart again.

Further examination uncovered that the bottom part was actually made of copper, so I put this task on hold before my lady brought me a Dremel Versatip gas soldering iron as a New Year’s gift .

Tip: it is sold without the gas so you’ll have to buy that separately.
As you probably guessed it neither of us knew that so I ordered some butane gas and today it finally arrived and at last I had a chance to use it.

The idea was to put some tin into the bottom part of the keychain, then put the cover, hold it tight and heat until the tin gets melted and solders parts in place.

So first I used pliers to cut tin pieces

Then I fired up the soldering iron...

...and here’s the result before cleaning

After wiping the keychain with toothpaste it turned out pretty well and passed a drop test

Bonus: while I was busy with the above my lady asked me to open a can of homemade pickled shrooms we’ve gathered a few months before

Just family dinner, nothing fancy.
Actually there should be 12 lenten(?) dishes on the table tonight, but this year we’ve skipped that

The main dish should be kutia (кутя) - you may read more on it here

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kutia

Do you celebrate it as well? If so - what traditions do you have?

Two weeks ago we didn't do anything here. In years past there was a more festive atmosphere to it, but these days are long gone.

We just had a chicken and then the miss and I played some games on our new game console.

2020 was even more silent than the last years of the 2010s - christmas-wise.

Happy orthodox Christmas, Alexanderre! Reminds me of when I worked in Moscow - we missed Uk Christmas as the offices in Moscow were working, and we missed orthodox Christmas as the office in London was working! Sensible people took both off, but not us, oh no!

Nothing more annoying than getting a new toy tool and discovering a vital component is missing like gas in this case.... However good work in the end! :hatsoff:

I only wish Mora would come out of a version half the girth and even lighter, so it is easier in the pocket.

I like it the size it is but i can see where you're coming from, they are a bit bulky for their blade size but i find they pocket carry well, i don't like the neck carry option though  :tu:
