Connery had some eclectic views on women, like how it was a great idea to hit them when they wouldn't stop yammering. But he suggested only hitting them with an open hand - not a fist as you would a man. He kept these views for some 40+ years, repudiating them only in the early 2000's. This is not mere rumor, as he memorialized these views in a 1965 Playboy interview and reaffirmed them years later. One of his wives said he beat her, which he denied. And by eclectic, I mean totally beyond the pale. But, alas, things were different then. And in memoriam, we tend to remember only the good and gloss over the not so good.
All of us have said a-hole things in the past, EVERYONE, even Gandhi, and especially so if you reach the age of 90. That's all I'm going to say and I'm not going to discuss it further. All I want to do right now is pay my respects.
