I looked around and didn't find a "SAK's & Lighters" thread, so i decided to start one  :D


DT with two of my favorite lighters, 40's Ronson Princess (fluid) and 60's Ronson Varaflame (butane)  :salute:

Interesting topic. Very nice blades and lighters shown.
It is minimal November, so I’m carrying Standard. Shown here with my trusty, numbered St Dupond Art Deco and a pack of excellent Ethiopian cigarettes that I’ve been carrying lately in case a cigarette is needed (I’m a very casual smoker, say 1 - 3 per month, so I choose my smokes carefully).

Cool thread.   I used to love old lighters or interesting ones.  I don't have any but I do enjoy looking at them when I see them at the fleamarket.

Brass Zippo my kids bought me for Father’s Day ‘00. It is engraved “WE LOVE YOU, DAD” but you can barely read it. And an ‘02 Victorinox Soldier.

A couple of sportsmans (sportsmen?). The lighter is a Nimrod Sportsman from the the early 60's. I also have a chrome Zippo but those are common. The Nimrod is rarely used, since it is a pipelighter. The Zippo gets used to light candles, charcoal and the fireplace.

Yes, It is the FireAnt and tinder.

It works as you would expect such a small firesteel to work.  It does spark, but you aren’t going to get the amount of sparks you would from a larger steel.  Their recommendation of starting in the tinder pile and pulling back on the steel rather than sliding the striker does work pretty good.

Some really good choices, both of knives and lighters here. The Soldier (Wenger, undated but with "Waffenkontrolle" stamp) was just to close at hand not to be included but the Sportsman and Ronson Varaflame is my current carry. The Sportsman is fairly new (starting to get som nice patina) but the Varaflame has gotten a couple of dings from a few years of use.

It's probably my favourite ligher (even though i never smoked...  :D). I remember playing with it as a kid when my dad wasn't using it, and now it's obviously a treasured item for me, and still carried when ever i feel i'll need a light somewhere.

Not a Swiss Army but rather the Camilus for the US (1967). I figured a US Zippo and US knife. This knife had a broken opener layer spring and was adapted (rather poorly) to retain the bottle opener and blade. In hindsight it might of worked better to keep the awl and blade since that was the correct spring. I also peened it too tight. But it is better than it was with a broken spring.

Hopefully I am not violating a major rule posting a non SAK.

I love seeing a date stamp on this kind of thing. Beautiful SAK - States Army Knife!
Obviously it's good if smoking dies out as a habit, but all these old lighters have a lot of nostalgia built into them! Some real design classics.

Was hoping to have this in my Dec. EDC. Did arrive late for that though. Gas lighter apparently made in Austria in ’35 by Princesss for Fiat (dealer or factory, not known).

I don’t worry about color coordination of knife and lighter in every day life, but for photos it helps. 😀

A Colibri with 2 layer Vic with Philips instead of cork screw and a Wenger quartz GMT.

I still keep an old D battery Maglite updated with an LED by my key board for power outages and unwanted visitors. 😀
