gerber tool kit
on: January 25, 2009, 05:50:20 PM
those who have the mp 600 and the tool kit can you chime in.  what is the shape of the bit adapter?  i know its a 1/4" hex bit side, but what about the side that slips on the philips driver on the tool?  heck if i can save some cash with something i already have, then i will but if i need something that only gerber makes, then i guess i will shell out hte cash for it.  thanks guys

The Gerber Tool Kit is exceptionally well made. Really, it is. :tu:

The driver bits themselves are precision cut and cleanly formed (not sloppily cast to size as are many hex bits one finds these days) And they are shiny nickel plated so they won't rust. :)

The bit adapter itself is obvioiusly custom made for Gerber. It is slightly longer than an ordinary hex socket. There is a 1/4" hex in one end and a square in the other, which fits snugly on the phillips screwdriver. A powerful magnet is pressed into place halfway through (see picture below). It makes the socket "stick" to the phillips as well as making the screwdriver bit stick in the socket.

The whole kit is contained in a rubber holder.

If you are thinking of a bit driver kit I would definitely recommend the Gerber one.

Haven't got one myself but that looks nice. Seems as a pretty simple yet clever system.

That Gerber adapter fits perfectly over the Leatherman dedicated Phillips driver on tools like the Core, Blast, Kick, and even the LM knives with the fold out Phillips :tu:

FYI it also fits other tools with square-shaped drivers, such as the Buck X-Tract. Anyway, regarding the OP's question, you could try some of the smaller socket wrench bit adapters (with a square-shaped hole in one side and a hex one on the other side), although you'd better find a magnetized one. If the square part fits the Phillips head on your multi and the magnet kicks in, you're good to go.

anyone know what size hex bits come in the kit? I thought I read 4, 5, and 6 but want to be sure as those are the ones I use most, with an occasional 3 here and there.
