Opinel number 12 and number 8 comparison

Here is a couple regular Opinels
Or is it
I bought a regular Opinel No 12 and a No 12 F (does that stand for flexible or filet?
) These things are huge
The quality is what you would expect an Opie to be and these operate as smoothly as any of thwm I own
It is hard to believe the quality of these considering their price point... props to Opinel to consistently providing a great product at a great price
The blades of the 2 No 12s are a lot different
Look at the difference in thickness
The 12 F is way thinner and way more flexible but the regular 12 is a beast
Now I want to get a No 13 to see the difference
Now some more comparison shots
Here is the No 12 F and the No 8 Garden knife (my favorite opie
)
These both have different blades and tapered handles compared to the regular Opinel. I very much love the spear point and the handle of the No 8 Garden Knife
I wished this handle came on more of their knives and had some different blade options as well but I am happy with the way it is
the No 12 F looks like a filet knife blade and is also flexible like one. I maybuae this as a table knife instead of a pocket knife
The regular No 12 and No 8 now
These are what most people think of in terms of handle and blade shape when you envision an Opinel
nothing new here but that is not a bad thing at all
the quality of the knives is there as it should be and they all lock with the ring lock as they should as well
And to end my comparison a family shot of the blades

Great pics buddy.
A No12 was my first ever Opinel. Only quite recently got myself a filet one too. As yet I have resisted the lure of the No8 Garden but I have a modded No8 that I put a similar blade shape on myself. A No10 is my favourite for being "big" but not "silly".
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

They're beauties Poncho! A 10 is the largest I've been around. I've always wanted to pick up a 12 or even a 13! Ditto on the quality. They're great!

Thanks Gareth and Barry
I don't have a 10 yet but I love the 8
Not sure how I feel about the regular 12 as a carry but the 12 F is great feeling knife and much smaller feeling
I am not sure it would hold up to hard use as it is a filet knife though

I enjoyed reading your comparisons Poncho, great pictures too!
I have a small collection of Opinel...I just love 'em.
My 3 favorite production knives are Victorinox, Opinel, Spyderco.

I picked up 6's for myself and my partner as our fist Opinels. Hers is primarily a lunch knife while mine was an option for daily carry. I sent mine to a member and didn't think about getting another. I was lucky and found an 8 at the flea market. I really liked the size of this popular size. I ended up finding another which now lives in my camp cook kit.
Thanks for sharing the comparison pictures. I'd love to find more.

Thanks VMAN
Aloha, they are awesome value for the money even when new but I am sure you got even better deals on them at the Flea Market
I haven't ever ran across one other than new or used on Ebay or new at a knife store
Hopefully when things get back to a bit more normal this summer I can go to a Flea Market again
