Modding Question
on: November 29, 2020, 04:24:08 PM
Here's what I want to wind up with: 2-layer 91mm SAK with large and small blades and scissors, and awl and either phillips or corkscrew on back.  (no can or bottle openers or hook....don't really care about phillips or corkscrew either, but gotta have pinhole and tweezers for frequent wood splinters.  Question:  Would it be better to start with Spartan or Tinker and remove can and bottle openers and add scissors, or start with Super Tinker or Climber, and remove can and bottle openers and hook?  Or would there be problems either way that I'm not seeing?  thanks........

These are just different approach to the same end result, either by addition or subtraction.  Maybe the main differentiating factor would be cost?

I think either ways are fine, the only mild difference is if you want to reuse the rivet pins, the subtraction method is the only way you could be able to do that.

Btw, without the openers layer, there's a chance you may not have a lanyard hole, but some folks are fine without it.

:iagree: with comis  If it were me I think the subtraction method would be the easier though and as comis said, you could probably reuse the old pins :tu:

Good luck with the mod in whatever direction that you go with it :tu:

Yeah, the subtraction way sounds easier and cheaper, and as to the lanyard ring nub, I grind 'em off anyway, as I never use a lanyard.  thanks......

I don't think you could re-use the pins from a Super Tinker or Climber to make a two-layer knife...  But you might get away with using a Huntsman or Fieldmaster.

Hiraethus will know more than me for sure, so I would definitely take his advice over mine :salute: :tu:
