The perfect alox to me
on: November 20, 2020, 06:03:19 PM
Hellp everybody
I'm trying to build the perfecr alox for my needs, basically  mixing toghether a farmer and a pioneer x.
Firts of all, i want two blades, a standard one and a sheepsfoot, inspired by the classic american "two blade trapper" folding knives, so i took both blades and i'll reshape one into a sheepsfoot style.
I need inline awl, scissors, wood saw, a cap lifter.
Never used the can opener, so i swapped for another cap lifter thath will be re-shaped into a sharpened chisel.

Well in the picture you can see from left to right:
- inline awl
- blade a
- blade b
- gap
- wood saw
- scissors
- cap cap lifter and chisel

I want to ask you if could be a good idea to chenge some positions, and why.
And i need help to decide what to do with the gap i have thru balde and wood saw, in the pic you can see the opened awl but i really don't need it, and i don't know what to do with this space. Maybe i can fit a kind of tweezers/toothpick/pen?
Or a piece of alluminium with a hardened piece of steel to do a glassbraker?

Thanks
Simone

Just a thought, but... you said you don't need/want the can opener, so you could ditch that whole layer and instead put in the combi tool to fill that gap... Or, you could put in a small pen blade.

Great idea @Fuzzbucket, i can save a whole layer.
The farmer's caplifter cannot fit into, does the combi tool is flattened on the opposite side compared to the caplifter?

You're good, it's super thin - it's always paired with a main blade. However, it is normally found on 84s, so you'll probably have to enlarge the hole a bit for it to fit... and maybe bend the backspring slightly to increase tension.

Well the project go so slowly.
I decided to keep the cap lifter and the chisel (from the 2nd caplifter), because the 84's combi tool looks a bit slim and i want something a bit thick to do small pry.

Today i started to build what keeps the spring in tension, from a little piece of alluminium of 3mm thickness, slimmed down to 2,7mm with sandpaper and elbow oil. I made a 3mm hole and try to fit into the knife.

The idea is good to me but unfortunately the hole is not so perfect so the rspring needs more tension to keep the blade closed properly.
Tomorrow i wil do it again, keepin more attention at the dimensions...

this is the loadout before the assembly

Brass rods ready to get into

Awl and blade

The second blade ( i'll reshape to a sheepsfoot later)

The tensioner for the blade's backspring

Scissors

Wood saw, it was a bit tricky because the spring's hole was a bit smaller than the others, so the Dremel helped me with a diamond coated cutter making the hole bigger from 2,25mm to 2,5mm, ok now fits good.

The openers layer (i need to reshape the 2nd caplifter)

Ok the back scale is on. I made two holet M3 tapped to srew on a pocket clip

Good the clip is ok

Stay tuned!!!

Thank you @Sam Lim

Today works:

i reshaped the 2nd blade to sheepsfoot, i like it, so stubby and strong looking.

Now the 2nd caplifter receved some help to become a chisel, sharpening the side. I added a sharpened notch in tnhe middle to use it a s a wire stripper without cut my finger everytime.

@Fuzzbucket
Thank you!

And that's the finished work!

I'm so happy with this sak now, a pleasure to use, for my needs.
I wanna find something to swap instead of the peened brass rods, something i can tap cut and screw on, it will be the next mod, but for now i'll enjoy it as is.

I say thanks to all the modders here, i learned a lot from you!
