Day 7.

Small Texas Jack again.

After a lot of thinking I am slowly feeling better. Things are still smurfed up.
Girlfriend of 14years, which I married in May this year, mother of two, had a relationship with a coworker, for 4 years.
Everything is shattered, not sure if I can finish this.

Day 8.

Headed to the woods again.

Barlow in my pocket, slingshot, firesteel and some other toys in pack.
Lots of pebbles at the riverbank, even when not perfectly round they are acceptable ammonition, going off target just a few centimeters...

In the past doing things in the woods always helped me clear my head, today it helped filling the emptiness up there.

Thanks.  :-\

Just read this, though I live in a concrete jungle, but I always cherish those moments whenever I could spend time alone in the wilderness.  I love breathing in that crisp air and surely does clear my head each time.

There's something about getting out to the woods or wherever there's some open space.  Nice you went and took time for you.  Lovely Barlow  :like:

Day 9.

Trapper again.
Been working on an Atlatl at home, finished it while it rained outside.

Found the second blade really useable as a scraper, looks like Ive found a spot on this knife.
What seemed to be a useless pattern for my needs turned out to be a nice wood knife.

Got a second Trappet in red jigged bone in CV still in his box, might take that out sometime soon.

Feeling better, found a marriage counseling, we have a first appointment tomorrow, wish us luck to save what we build the last years. Thank god this is free here in germany.

Day 10.

Again the Trapper.
Been cleaning a larch burl Ive found last year which has been dried since.
Awesome texture on this large one, did a rough cleaning right after findung it, scraped off the brown layer. Will polish and oil it tomorrow.

@McStitchy: this is just my working tray, which I place on my lap while doing woodwork at home. Catches a lot of the shavings. Looks like I have to empty it.

Plus I yet have to find some use for the second, large blade.

Thing about these 3 blade knifes is that I rarely have use for the third blade so far.

For me:
  • Two blades:  one general/dirty, one clean
  • Three blades:  one food, one general/dirty, one cigars

Another approach I've seen employed:
  • Pick a sharp blade.
  • Use that blade for everything, until it is dull.
  • Repeat steps 1-3 for all blades on the knife; then and only then, proceed to step 4.
  • Sharpen all blades on the knife, then return to step 1.

Day 11.

Things go on, so does life.

Doing woodwork a lot recently, carving keeps the hands buisy and the mind clear.

Seahorse Whittler in Chestnut Bone SS with a quick owl.

For those interested in a how to:
http://whittlingwithwill.blogspot.com/2011/05/three-minute-owl.html?m=1

That dude did over a thousand of them as a personal therapy. Im far from both, the number and time, but can understand why he did it.

The Seahorse is a nice idea but a tradeoff in performance.

Case put three really usable blade shapes in a pocket frame.
Bad thing about that is the grip, the handle is rather slim for my large hands so I cant work with it for a long time.
Next problem is the blade steel itself. Case uses its regular SS on this one, which isnt a bad steel at all for day to day use. For whittling or carving its all about shape and edge retention. The steel is simply too soft. A higher carbon steel with higher  hardness (60...62hrc compared to the 56-57hrc case does afaik) would be better.

So this knife is just a travel knife for me when doing only a little whittling.
For serious work I got a bunch of real carving tools from Pfeil (switzerland) or Flexcut (usa)

Is there a pocket knife you gravitate to when carving aside from your more professional dedicated carving tools?

I recently watched a show called Strange Inheritance.  It was pretty amazing this man William Dickey used a pocket knife to carve 60K plus pieces of circus things.
