2 sheaths
on: December 18, 2020, 02:52:50 PM
Now that i've had carried both, and tried all the possible scenarios, i can say something about. Ontario rat 7 sheath and lionsteel m7 sheath. First one, everybody was bashing it in the reviews. The second, none.
Well... I beg to disagree almost completely. Except for the tacticool factor, the lionsteel sheath is... not what it should be.
Take a good look at the photos and just try to imagine in how many ways you can carry them, as they sit. Right hand, left hand, on your right hip, on your left hip, horizontal on your back (scout) and left/right, stucked in front of your belt, strapped on your vest or on your rucksack.
Both have 2 points of securing, might put 3 on both.
Why is the ontario sheath so bad?!
And just to mention, the draining hole on the lionsteel was stucked with rubber in order to keep the knife fix and without rattle. But, it was stucked. No draining there. At all. I pulled it out, now it drains any liquid. But, it rattles 🤣

I got those sheaths with my Spec Plus SP-1 and SP-2.  They're abysmally made and cheap feeling sheaths. The MOLLE webbing was sewn so tight, I could barely get it on my pack. I know these are made to be quite low-cost knives, so why not hard plastic? Those can be molded in masse quite cheaply, in the US. Mora does it. Glock does it. Why not Ontario?

I'll tell you what I did. I threw them aside, and went to the leather sheath my 1970s Camillus USMC Combat Knife came with (since normally, I use the hard plastic Kabar sheath for that since the Camillus, at one point in its life, had been modified to double-edge, which was starting to wear a spot in the sheath at the tip of the blade) and a sheath that just so happened to fit the SP-1.

Merry Christmas and yes, i'll also get a leather one. Just for the looks. The one that came with the knife is perfectly functional, but too utilitarian in design, if i wanna have a bushcraft look 🤣
