Hello from North Carolina
on: January 17, 2021, 10:15:12 PM
I am an electrician who has used multi tools for approximately 20 years. My first multi tool was a Leatherman, but unfortunately I can not remember the model. I do remember buying it at Home Depot and I think the price was in the $50 to $60 range. I carried it every day for 2 years until it fell out of a hole worn in its nylon sheath while under a house. If I can determine what model it was I plan to find a belated replacement.

After the Leatherman, I went through some lean years where I could only afford cheap and unsatisfactory replacements. More recently, I have carried a Gerber Suspension. After reading favorable reviews in the Cheap and Cheerful subforum, I bought a Ozark Trail Multiforce last week.

I found this forum while trying to decide what to buy myself for Christmas (my wife and I agree that it is best for her to buy her own gift and I buy mine). I discovered that there have been several more multi tools aimed at electricians than I was aware of and decided to buy as many as I could and test them out. This decision has completely mystified my wife. She is probably right in thinking that I have lost my mind, but maybe some of you can understand. Anyway, here is what I've got (see attached photos):

Performance Tool 13 in 1 Electrician's Multi Tool and Amazon Basics 10 in 1 Electrician's Stripping Multi Tool (same multi tool)
Southwire MT001 Multi Tool, Westward 6ATV1 Multi Tool, and Hyper Tough 12 in 1 Electrician Multi Tool (same multi tool; is and has been sold by other companies also)
Bear & Son 155EL Electrician Multi Tool
CAT 14 in 1 Multi Tool
Klein Electrician's Hybrid Plier Multi Tool
King Innovations L-Tool
Gerber Groundbreaker
Leatherman Squirt ES4
Commercial Electric 7 in 1 Electrician's Multi Tool
Protocol Equipment K-027 Electrician's Utility Knife with Wire Stripper
Husky and Kobalt Plumber's Multi Tools (very similar tools)

I plan to buy a SOG Kilowatt and a SOG multi tool with a wire stripper attachment sometime this year

At some point I will be reviewing these tools.

Here are my wish list items:
Paladin PT-540
Leatherman Squirt E4
Rapid Shark Wire Stripper and Utility Knife
Gerber Cable Dawg

welcome mate
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob
