Discontinued models in 2021
on: January 27, 2021, 05:24:42 PM
Hello everyone,

Apparently, some SAKs are discontinued (list below) as of 2021, is it really confirmed for all of them?

- Classic red transluscent
- Classic blue transluscent
- SwissLite
- Midnight Manager
- Every model "@work"

- Traveller
- Traveller Lite
- Expedition Lite
- Spartan Lite
- Swiss Champ XAVT

- Swiss Army 6 (Rancher)

I'm a bit surprised for the XAVT as it's a collectors' SAK.
For Traveller, Traveller Lite and Expedition Lite I think they are rather expensive and don't supply anything much except the screen, and the sales are pretty low every year I guess.

So basically everything with a 3mm LED diode flashlight. Makes sense. Hopefully they bring out the same models with proper 21st century LED flashlights.

Nothing discontinued apparently.
If I'm not wrong there are only 3 models anyway (Money clip, Ambassador, Executive).

I really hope that's not true, that's a HUGE list and there are many really special SAKs on it. Victorinox' SAK line-up would loose a LOT of its appeal  without them.

I just watched the video. If what the man says is true, then a lot more models are discontinued as of 2021 than mentioned in Guibur's list above: various Evolutions and RangerGrips, last gen Hunter Pro, Spartan PS, Spirit XC (!) etc. It's like watching a horror movie really. I am still bathed in sweat as I write this...

Why should they discontinue the Spirit XC?

Red and blue transparent Classic SDs I don't get--there's a lot of them out there.

Anything with an LED--one, I don't know if they sell well or not. Two, perhaps they're getting overhauled.

@work. Poor sales.

XAVT--expensive, horribly impractical, only bought by a small amount of die-hard collectors. Yep, that one I can understand.

Traveller. I've been "looking at getting it" for a long time, but figured the LCD was going to be finicky, and was likely NOT waterproof.

Rancher--it seems only recently, its brother the Harvester came to the USA. You can't find the bloody things in the States.

Spirit XC--why? It seems to be one of the more popular SwissTools Spirits here. Certainly is my favorite.

I was told recently that the Pioneer is also being discontinued, replaced by the Pioneer X, has anyone else heard this (I don't mean the coloured one, but the standard silver variant) :(

I think one of the issues is that there is difference between discontinuing something in one country or region and worldwide. This is similar with many products (e.g. cars)

As we ask various dealers in various countries about what is getting discontinued we usually end up with huge lists that could be wrong, worldwide.

Only the factory will know.

For example the baker model (not sure of the name) single blade, pastry cutting blade, was declared discontinued a decade ago, after the US dealers apparently said so. It is still available here.

I think it's not true. In Alox limited edition 2021 Pioneer is replaced by Pioneer X, perhaps that's what you were told? or misunderstood?  :dunno:
Based on the list with all discontinued models in 2021 (sent to Victorinox retailers), there are no Pioneers (Silver) in it so it is rather unlikely. Still in production for 2021 at least.

Totally agree, it can be discontinued in USA and not in Europe or contrary ect... the source I have is for France and Spain so most likely true for Europe though  :dunno:

Another way is to look it up on Victorinox website, for instance Swiss Army 6 (Rancher) disappeared and that in a lot of countries (Didn't look for all but it disappeared worldwide I think).
Though if you still find some of them it doesn't mean it's not discontinued just that still stock is remaining, so you can know for sure only if it disappeared.
Long story short it doesn't smell good for Swiss Army 6  :ahhh

This would be tragic. For me, the X has less utility since it adds weight while adding little utility (forgive me SAK Knights for I have sinned, but I don't find the scissors large enough to be useful).

I agree. IMO the Pioneer is about perfect as a sturdy pocket knife. It’s a lighter and slimmer carry than either the PX or Farmer.

Capable scissors are available on one’s keyring 58mm.  :)

Dan has sinned and I will not forgive him.
Love me scissors.
And a two layer alox.
So logically I swapped out the opener layer for scissors.
Yeah I have probably sinned too... pfffftt!!

Try to open a wine bottle. If you never did it before, it's quite a revelation really. Just be careful not to make a habit of it  ;)
