I do carry the bit in the holder not the driver, I just slide out the bit, insert it into the driver. I can use the screwdriver without opening the handles too!

Actually, that is quite a useful feature - I like your style :tu:
I used to come here a lot.

 I thought it would turn out that way if you cut off the bottle opener  Now why couldn't LM have figured that out ??? I mean who wouldn't want to keep the bit driver in the design if at all possible :tu:

Welcome to the forum dugout and great pics :tu: :D

The folks at Leatherman considered it a verification that they'd done the right thing when they heard that members were already modding their own "Freestyles."  It makes them feel like they are on the right track with customer demands.  :D

My thoughts as well. :-\ Now I think what LM needs to do is make a keychain sized driver, like the get-a-way, that uses their flat bits.

They should have left the bit driver in and put a double ended bit in it like the one that comes with the Wave ::) :D

Here's another piece of information you guys may be interested in.  Leatherman will be switching the blades on the Skeletools so they match up with the Freestyle- partially serrated blades in 440 on the standard Skeletool, and plain edged 154CM on the CX model.  So, all those who wanted to swap blades won't have to now, and the collectors among us will know if they have an "original" Skeletool or CX based on the type of blade it has.

No word on when the switch will take place though.  I'll see if I can get more info if anyone is interested.

Hmm, I'm not sure I'm happy with that. I like the 50/50 pe/se as it is on the current cx.

Well that's the nice thing- you'll always be able to obtain a 2008 model with the 50/50 edge.

As far as I know they are sticking with the 440 for the standard Skeletool and Freestyle models.

Yeah it's small, but I think it's too large for being just two tool.  I think the handles could have easily had some simple drivers inclulded.

I have been carrying these tools for a couple of weeks now, and while I do indeed miss the screwdrivers, they are quite handy, and disappear almost completely when you aren't using them.  It's amazing how invisible they are!

These would be a good tool for someone who has to dress up for work as they are light and very, very low key.  It's also handy to pair with a decent sized multi, but it really shines when paired with a SAK- something like a Farmer is just about perfect for it as they compliment each other very nicely.  The Farmer has the saw, awl and screwdrivers, the Freestyle has the pliers and OH blade, and for more versatility, carry the standard Skeletool and have the partially serrated blade to compliment the plain blade on the Farmer.  Plus, the two together still weigh less than most multitools by themselves!

That makes very good sense  :salute:  You would have most things covered with those two .Or go with a Climber and you have Scissors too  :D But no saw  :(

Funny because the carabiner and the driver are the MAIN reasons I have a Skeletool. I love being able to just clip it to my belt loop or pocket. This is too minimalist for me but a pliers/knife combo is nice to have on you at all times.

Is it me or do they look really weird? Like a guy with no feet.

It's shape does kinda make one come in touch with their feminine side ::)

Ever since seeing the pics of the new Freestyle, I wondered if the bottom the handles could be used as an emergency screwdriver? It may not work nearly as well as the actual drivers, but if the bottom of the handle could be used in a pinch as a screwdriver kind of like a dime could be, that would probably be useful enough for me because I almost never need a screwdriver except in an emergency.

I suppose it could, but since it's angled instead of flat my best guess is that if you have a big enough screw, you are probably better off with a dime.
