Day 29

110 attended hotpot dinner tonight, since most food came in packages, so not a lot of food prep, but a good amount of unwrapping.

Fool's Day 28:

A nice cool day here. T'was windy, but sunny. Seemed like a great day for some trail time.

(Image removed from quote.)

I was fairly amazed to see that most of the snow has melted off already. The peaks were still white, and there were places on the trail where it was a bit icy. Here and there small pockets of snow still linger in the shade.

(Image removed from quote.)

I saw lots of insect life, even grass hoppers. Keep in mind that it still getting below freezing at night. With the insects, I saw a lot of bird activity: Chickadees, Crows, Robins, and even a few Bluebirds. The first Bluebirds of Spring!

Some nice wild flowers growing out of some rocks. Tough little beasties:

(Image removed from quote.)

Also spotted some recent predator scat and clumps of Elk scat like this:

(Image removed from quote.)

As previously stated, it was a windy and cool day. I set up my Esbit stove in a shallow dish formed by a fallen tree's roots. Added a few rocks for a wind break. The flame still guttered a bit, but the little Esbit got my water boiling and ready for me tea. I used the 110 to carve some twigs down to size to add on top of the fuel tab. I find that a few twigs help the Esbit fuel tab catch fire and adds to the net BTU output of the stove.

(Image removed from quote.)

Lunch was half an energy bar, a packet of nuts, and half a packet of jerky.

While pulling my gear together, I rummaged around and found the nuts (2014) and jerky (2013) in a zip lock bag in a fishing vest. I think I stashed them there to use for lunch on a fishing trip....seven years ago. I was pleasantly surprised to find that both jerky and nuts were still in tip top shape.

View from the lunch room:

What a fun outing! :like:   The last picture looks really familiar, have you taken a similar picture at the same location? :pok:

DAY 28

Loving this challenge. Not alot going on today so a simple Pic today

That's actually a pretty carrying method, a kydex slip.

Spotting this little guy munching away in a brush pile.

(Image removed from quote.)
Looks like someone's hungry! :D

 thankfully I have a cunning plan

(Image removed from quote.)
This totally could be a chicken and egg paradox--did Coco know she is getting the treat, that's why she is clinging onto the 110?  Or did she see the treat, and decide to hold the 110 hostage? :D

First time I've used that exact spot, but the area is a favorite of mine and should look familiar by this time.   ;)

No uses came up yet for my 110 today.
Well... there was that moment when I removed some dead skin from a finger with it, which made me feel a bit like Crocodile Dundee  :D

It was standing by at some bike maintenance too...

Fool's Day 29:

Some fun package duty for the 110. I didn't expect to win this vintage Paratool from Ebay...I was sure my bid was low.  :dunno:

Like the old LM PST, the vintage SOG Paratool is a quality multitool. I even like the file. I'd rather have a saw bade than the serrated blade*, but the saw option is no longer available from SOG for this model. Even so, the Paratool has a nice set of tools and is very comfortable to use (no sharp steel edges digging into the hand). My favorite feature: the pliers can be used with the head angled up to 30º or so. That has come in handy a few times.   :tu:

* Better yet would be a PE Sheepsfoot blade and a saw blade in place of the straight back blade. After awl....I've got the Buck for clip point duty.....  :D

I don't think it fits the Paratool, unfortunately.  Let me know if I'm wrong.....that would be great.  :tu:
