I had a couple SAKs with worn nylon scales that were pretty ugly. In an attempt to polish them, I arrived at a finish that I actually really like. I used a dremel to sand the scales, then used a buffing wheel with black residue from polishing blades on it. It rubbed the black into the sanded areas and gave them a faux wood grain look.
Just thought I would share since it is a free way to dress up an old knife.
