 Open all the tools out of the handles and look inside the handles Sean

Sometimes you have to really look hard because they are a little faint a flashlight may help

They should be a date stamped in both handles :tu:

thanks ok found it! 05/97

Well since I brought the thread back from oblivion :D Thought I would add something to it ::)

Both my Supertools have the second type of blade as in the pic on page 1

On further inspection of my 2 I noticed that the files were a bit different as well  Not unlike the ones Dave showed of the Pulse in this thread http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,4601.0.html at the end of page
Notice how the one is shiny 97 model and the other is more of a matte finish 2000 model

Also the can opener (of course this could be due to different ppl in the manufacturing process) seem a little different as well mainly the nail nick just like the way Dunc mentioned his 2 screwdriver nail nicks were different :)
2000 model top and 97 model bottom

I'm starting to think that the old style blade got snapped a lot, hence the change, and there being a lot more of the new style about. Even on ebay, they all seem to be new.

Cool - glad I spotted it!

Well I just had to look.  I've an 0500 (both legs) and what looks like the second blade type.  It also has the unpolished file.

Two Super Tools here:

Stainless - date 0299 & 0399 - non saber

BO - date 0797 & 0897 - non saber

The stainless ST has polished file and the BO appears to have been this style of file before it was BO finish was applied.

Both have small nail nicks.
What? Enablers! Are you serrrrious? Where? I dont see any.

Wanted to add this in here. A while back while looking over some original Supertools I noticed changes that took place on the Supertool plier head. In the pic below are two Supertool plier heads with different size pivots. The larger pivot is date coded 0894 both handles. The smaller pivot is date coded 1196 and 1296. All my original Supertools from 0894 to 1295 have large pivots. My only 96 is the one shown so I`m guessing     the pivots were changed some time in 96. The rest of the Supertools I have from 96 onwards all have small pivots

Next is the hard wire notch being added to the plier head. First pic has date codes of 0595 in both handles no hard wire notch. Second pic has date codes of 0595 and 0795 and has a hard wire notch. Again I`m assuming the chage took place in mid 95

Thanks, I might be flipping it though. I really got it for the leather sheath. But if I like it more than my other OG  I may flip that one instead.   :tu:

The Original Supertool was my first multitool.  I bought it back in '94, and even though I don't use it for EDC anymore, it still gets a lot of fiddling time ...  :multi:

Still one of Leatherman's finest in my humble opinion, the fit and finish, the mirror polish, the lack of flaws ... What has happened Leatherman ...  ::)

Here are some pics of my Original Supertool's blade (date code 1094):

So shiny :o I am with you Top-Gear  the OG Supertool was about as good as it gets. If it had a way of unlocking the tool in use with some sort of push lock similar to  the 300 it wouldn't have needed to be changed still to this day :tu:

SS 0800/0800 reg clip point, smaller pivot, hard wire notch, Leatherman USA on plier head, matte file
SS 0698/0698 reg clip point, smaller pivot, hard wire notch, Leatherman USA on plier head, shiny file, CC
SS 1097/1097 reg clip point, smaller pivot, hard wire notch, Leatherman USA on plier head, shiny file
SS 1095/0995   saber point,  larger pivot,  hard wire notch, Leatherman USA on plier head, shiny file
BO 0798/0798 reg clip point, smaller pivot, hard wire notch, Leatherman USA on plier head, shiny file CC
BO 1000/1000 reg clip point, smaller pivot, hard wire notch, Leatherman USA on plier head, matte file
BO 0397/0397 reg clip point, smaller pivot, hard wire notch, Leatherman USA on plier head, shiny file

Well that is what I have now  The SS 1095/0995 and the BO 0397/0397 are both still NIB the BO still has the sticker even :o All but one of my Supertools is in very good shape, even the one I use to EDC :tu: One of the BO is the only one that is kinda rough so I usually give it harder use than most of my tools :D

5 and a half years late but better late than never I guess :D
