Name my SAK mod
on: March 29, 2021, 03:06:13 AM
Thanks to Poncho, I have a new bladeless SAK mod that needs a name.

It is a Yeoman based SAK with a file/metal saw in place of the blade and Wounded Warrior adapted sports scales.

So what do you think its name should be?

One definition of yeoman is a clerical officer, so a Filing Clerk, I suppose.

Bladeless models often seem to seem to have aviation themes, since they could be carried on a commercial flight, e.g. the Jetsetter and Wenger's Air Traveler.  So perhaps something along those lines would be appropriate.  Perhaps the Flight Attendant?

BroYeo comes to mind, for brotherhood.

FauxYeo comes to mind, as it's not a real Yeoman.

BeauYeo comes to mind, because it's beautiful.

ChoYeo comes to mind, because of who made it. <----- my favorite.

Yes.  Poncho intentionally included that one.

Kind of related to this thread... I've come across what appears to be a very similar model: Explorer + metal saw/file. I've never seen or heard of one before but it doesn't appear to be a mod.

I'm wondering what it's name is, if it's an actual model... your mod seems like be a bladeless version of it.

That's the Modeler. The idea of a modeler requiring a file and magnifying glass is pretty spot-on.

Pipedreams mentioned Petty Officer, and I'd add Warrant Officer, as military synonyms.

For more assistant-themed synonyms, you've got aide, associate, attendant, backup, colleague, deputy, friend, partner, representative, abettor, accessory, accomplice, adherent, adjunct, ally, appointee, auxiliary, backer, coadjutor, collaborator, confederate, co-operator, flunky, follower, gofer, helper, helpmate, mate, patron, peon, subordinate, supporter, temp, coadjutant, fellow worker, and right-hand.

For more free ownership-themed synonyms, you've got property owner, proprietor, hotelier, hotelkeeper, innkeeper, lessor, landholder, landowner, property owner, and squire.

I'm sure there are more. It was a pretty cursory search. I removed a few that I know for sure Victorinox has already used.

Of course, you could always just go with something unrelated to similar models — like the Problem Solver, the Investigator, the Questioner, or the Inquirer. I don't think there's a wrong answer, though I'll admit I'm not really into portmanteaus.

You're actually my hero

What about a name like Peacekeeper? Kind of has that Yeoman/Explorer vibe but implies bladeless.

Or Objector, from the conscientious objectors to combat in war (thinking Desmond Doss, WWII hero), but playing on the inquisitive nature to examine objects.  :hatsoff:

Excellent!  I think Lisa nailed it.  But she loses points for putting that song in my head.

YeoCho it is.

Possibly even because of the earworm aspect, which is fitting in a weird sort of way because of how my mind works.

One of the reasons I really like the scales, aside from them just being awesome, is that my youngest brother is in a wheelchair and a few years back I attended an Adaptive Sports Challenge with him.  (It is due to cerebral palsy not from being a wounded warrior).  That same brother likes to talk by singing what he wants to say to the tune of Amazing Grace, making Amazing Grace kind of like an earworm when thinking of him.
