New 2009 Micra
on: January 18, 2009, 11:54:51 PM
Here's a great new Micra for 2009:

The second pic is a bit blurry, sorry for that... the backside has a continuation of the colors, but not the flag, and says "Leatherman Micra 2009 Special Edition" in case you can't read it.

This one is limited in production, not to numbers, but to time.  It is only going to be made through 2009 and that will be it.

I'm sure I will too, but, and I know it's very patriotic and all that, don't you think it's a bit , well, ....loud?

To be clear, I'd think exactly the same if it were a Union Jack on there, not just because it's the Stars and Stripes!

The Leatherman "Jingoist".

Does anyone else recognize the irony of many of these winding up in the hands of the Dept. of Homeland Security via airport security?

I think they should make these legal for airline travel... I doubt a terrorist would be carrying one!  :D

Look at how intricate that flag pattern is! Why, if they can do patterns that complex, they can do......anything :o

A Union Jack is when the Union Flag is hoisted on a ship. :twak:

Actually that isn't necessarily true.  :pok:  It can be either and I think it is actually more universally accepted to use the term "Union Jack" than flag.

Here in the states... It's always been referred to as the Union Jack.  :D

Second thoughts......is "uneducatable" a real word

Anyway  :b2t: looks a nice micra, but I must admit I prefer the subtle unobtrusive ones.  However, If they made them the flags in contrasting metals (no shiny colours) that would be niiiiice

To be perfectly honest the American War isn't something we think about all that much.  To you guys it was the start of you Nation.  To the British Empire it was annoying but there was much more pressing things (the exploitation of India for example) happening that were bringing in much more money.

Add to that we are also very hard to offend and only take the Mick out of people we like.  :D

Lol. One thing that you can never really accuse brits of is not being able to laugh at themselves.

Flash - I had heard that theory before, but it is quite debatable and there's no definitive ruling on it really. In practice, it has been recognised as meaning the same as the Union Flag for a couple of hundred years (you know, before there were americans ;) ), so it'll do for me1

I'm going to back Flash up here and say that while the name 'Union Jack' is now the common and accepted term, the work 'Jack' was only meant to be used at sea.  If you are on dry land it should be Union Flag.  I believe the name stuck because most of the time people saw it it was flying from the back of a British ship; merchant or Royal Navy.  We were, and still are, very proud of the Royal Navy.  There were quite a lot of them in the C18-C19th.  :)

The whole "jack" or "flag" thing is only hear say and speculation.  No one actually knows.

This explains a little http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Flag

The bottom line is that neither is the right or wrong way to say it.

That was a really good read and suggests that both terms are valid.
