The budgie has been illegal to own in the New York area for the last decade or so for obvious reasons.

It seems escaped pets have a habit of drinking Hudson River water, especially near the Indian Point atomic power plant:






In other news I learned today that "budgie smuggler" has nothing to do with illegally importing banned birds into New York.   :o
