What do store in your scales?

I found some new 3D printed scales for the 91mm SAK that allows easy access to the space under the scales.  My modded 91 has no main blade and no corkscrew cut out, so I asked the seller if he could reflect the scales image and print both sides for me with no cut outs.   :tu:

I decided on a sewing set, paper clip and safety pins, along with a Leatherman mini driver (with a little help from a Dremel).



I don't use the regular scale tool toothpick.  I always carry a better pen, and I have some of Uncle Bill's grippers on my lanyard so don't need the SAK tweezers.

There used to be a couple of knockoff SAKs that had a thicker front scale that had a hinged cover--one, a "Miss Army" knife had a sewing kit; the other was marketed as a survival tool and featured a fishing kit. I had practical use for both, but haven't really got either.

Now that looks great!

You must do a lot of sewing and pinning  ;)  Only problem I see is it's not red and has no Vic cross-  maybe no longer a true SAK??  :dunno:  Also not listed on SAKWIKI  :D

If you search on "91mm Victorinox stash scale cover" you'll find them.  Leads to the site https://www.shapeways.com/.  There are other colour options with a red type included and possibility for custom text or image(Vic cross???), and other variations with micro-sd card slots, or for 74mm.  I have no affliliation with the designer/maker or shapeways.  I found these via Google.

Neat idea! I'd love to see a much thicker version. I would store some snacks, my Soundcore earbuds, spare shoelaces, my car key and some gum in there.

My lanyard is made from a pair of shoelaces....

This is urban EDC for me, so I have no need for a fishing line and hook, but I'd like to hear other ideas for items.  The safety pin head is about as thick as can fit inside.  I guess I could store safety match and striking strip.

I did wonder about putting in a contactless payment chip --- I used to have one sewn into my watch strap and it was convienent for swiping payment for my lunch at canteen.  But I live in UK with strict-ish knife laws, and can imagine the fuss if I kept pulling out a SAK to swipe in on the bus, tube, or pay at pubs, cafe, or shops.

Maybe I stash some trit vials inside, then if ever I go into a dark forest I could drip trits like a breadcrumb trail...
