Today I picked up a couple of freeze dried sandwiches to do a taste comparison.  They are both currently in my GSMRE, but who knows if they last.

The GSMRE is put together in a 9L ZippSack.  It may change some between now and storage day, but I’m pretty satisfied with it at this point.  I have 2200 calories between 3 meals and about 1650 in snacks.

I was going to put it in a roll-top dry bag, but I like the ZippSack better for accessibility.

I like that zip sack idea.

I have one somewhere, not sure if it is that size.  I may give it a try.  :tu:

Nice!  Is is a fair comparison if they are different flavors?  Might need more in-depth testing. We are talking about science here.....  :D

Unfortunately, that is as close as I could find.  Mountain House only has plain or mint-chip and the other is only in Neapolitan.  At least a portion of it will be an equal match.

I do have a Neapolitan ice cream "sandwich" from Mountain House(probably got that quite a few years back), and plan to eat it in this challenge.

Can't say it is the best ice cream sandwich in the world, but if you are desperate enough and close your eyes with a little imagination...it actually is pretty good. :D

Now that's interesting! I always wondered about the wax and hotter areas like a car parked in the sun with the bag in the boot trunk.
But if the cheese also reacts to it quickly, who knows

I'm a bit concerned. I didn't have any chance yet to go shopping for this. The gas stations close by are very small. I need to resort to the normal stores and see.

Still then, we will not have any freeze-dried stuff like that available.

We're talking Irish country side here  :D

Sounds like a lovely place Eamo  :hatsoff:

Well, there's still some time for me to get my MRE sorted.

Finally got a chance to put some bits together - nothing that special, but anything that isn't porridge and salt is a feast in my eyes.

Found some pepper, and sachets of sugar, which immediately expands the mre horizon - the giddy heights of porridge with pepper and porridge with sugar for pudding.  How posh are we?!

Are we going to see a sack full of potato crisps and chocolates as your entry?  I suppose it is a lucky thing they don't make powdered Guinness....

Thanks for reminding us that it is the little things that make life so sweet. Or spicy.

Mags, I've hesitated to bring this up in the past. Probably because I don't really want to know the answer. Do the U-Boat crew use an eating utensil at meal times?  :dunno:

I only ask because it is traditional...in most nations' MREs, not all, but most...to include some sort of eating utensil or tool, and I think it might be nice for you to include one in your MRE, too.

Hmmmm.....yes.....I imagine that with a ravenous U-boat crew speed of eating is a priority.

So, Fuzzy signed up for the challenge, using far fewer words than usual, and then disappeared.

Why do I have the worrisome suspicion that he ran straight for the Jaffa cake aisle at his local Tesco....and hasn't left?   :dunno:

Oh, my.

We used to preach 'water discipline', but this is the first I've heard of porridge discipline.

A Jaffa Cake Donut is coming out - My guess is he's set up his tent outside the supermarket so he can be first in line.

I do have to say, I powdered or freeze dried Guinness does sound interesting.

What about brownie cooked with Guinness instead of water :dunno::think:

I’ve never even had an original jaffa cake.

Well worth a try. There must be a 'British Specialty' shop near you. Such a concern may well have the beloved Jaffa.

Otherwise....the Big River reaches across the Atlantic...... :o

Beware though Sos - they are addictive, as can be witnessed by the sad actions of the once refined and dignified Fuzzbucket, now camping outside his local Budgens in his pants, waiting desperately for the first delivery of Jonuts.

Think about whether you want to end up in his position before you take your first bite of delicious orangey, crumbly chocolate glory. Excuse me a minute
