I used to work with an old guy years ago when you were talking to him he would quite often rake around in his trouser pockets and pull out a pork pie or a boiled egg, pack of crisps or something then start munching away on it, he really was a walking mre dispenser  :D

I want to be that guy when I grow up..... :D

Ok so it has to sit on a shelf for 1 week with no refrigeration, this will take some thought but i'm sure it's doable, im in.

Yes....you've nicely stated the challenge in about 1/100th of the verbage I used......

• DO pack up all your items into a waterproof bag or sack capable of fitting into a backpack. Aim for a 2-gallon or 4L size maximum.

  I just realized...as I was thinking about finding a bag for me GSMRE...that I made a boneheaded conversion error in my opening post. 2 gallons is closer to 7.5L. I should have said, "Aim for a 2-gallon or 8L size maximum."

Doesn't really matter, as long as your GSMRE can fit into a backpack and be carried up a hill without the use of supplemental oxygen.

Sorry for the lack of metric literacy.

Well, well.....this is an unexpected surprise.  I'm curious to see if you'll last the full 24-hours without an espresso machine.

Rule clarification due to last minute personnel changes:

• DO be sure to pack all the beverages you'll need for Chow Day (05 June 2021). DON'T use a porter, valet, or Sherpa to haul your espresso machine about with you.

Of course during Chow Day you'll be limited to commercial products. But I doubt that will slow you down.   :pok:

Tell her that you'll be sure to include lots of heart healthy pistachios and other nuts. And maybe some dried fruit, too.   :D

Steve1989 did a review of a Brazilian Navy MRE:

Brazilian Navy ration.

People were upset because he didn't use the Brazilian farina properly. I'm still not sure how farina is meant to be eaten...... :dunno:

Ah... Navy... Our Lucky guys in white!
(Army, was my only possible option)

Steve is a great guy! I like his videos!

Farina (Farinha mandioca) is a staple food very (really) common in north and northeastern.
Put It to absorb the liquid on beans or beef gravy... Problem solved.
Here (southwest), we mix it with butter, onions, scrambled eggs, bacon or pancetta to make "Farofa". And eat It with beans.

(People made a unnecesary noise about It. Troll behavior...).

About our MRE: I think It is great! I could eat our MRE everyday.
When we had Feijoada in the MRE... Lucky day!

A restaurant downtown was advertising Feijoada on the menu today!  Sadly, I had already eaten.......

Thanks for the information about farinha!   :tu:  I'd like to give Farofa a try!   :tu:

Bridgford does make their products commercially available and don’t even label them as MRE.

There are actually several companies now that make commercially available MRE style meals.  Some don’t even look like MREs.

OK.  I’m in and even with the wife’s concurrence, as long as I include some good (not sodium laden and somewhat healthy) food.

01 Nix, aka 'Mr Spork'
02 Magentus, aka 'Dr Tray'
03 Sea Monster, aka 'Mr Sulfites'
04 comis, aka 'Road Food Warrior'
05 Barry Rowland, aka 'Sack Lunch Commando'
06 ReamerPunch, aka 'Can Opener Connoisseur'
07 ezdog, aka 'Chow Hound'
08 Borg, aka "Turnip the Beet"
09 Eamo aka "Dadbrador"
10 Fuzzy aka "Chicken Supreme"
11 Sos24 aka “Concrete Camp Chef”

Now for a couple clarifying questions:
- you mention freeze dried meals, I live just a couple miles from an REI which carries some nice freeze dried meals for backpackers.  Would one of those for say dinner count?
- Is repackaging items to smaller single serve or less bulky packages allowed?  Example: oatmeal in plastic bag instead of single serve cup like sold in gas station, macaroni and cheese removed from box, chips or crackers that come in big bag or box  broken down in smaller bag for space.
- The bag just has to fit the food as long as other implements or accessories (stove, spork, bowl, french press pot) could still be carried in pack, correct?

Given the convenience of some of these packaged foods, I'm surprised I don't see them more often. (Maybe I'm not looking carefully enough......)
