Android music player?
on: May 18, 2021, 02:17:34 AM
I lost my Google Play Music app, my playlists, my widget, and everything, during a stupid update.
What alternatives are people using?
I want it to be free, be able to create playlists, and be able to have a widget in the home screen to control it.
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

EDIT
I downloaded AIMP, and it is very frustrating to use.

I want to be able to move songs up and down in the playlist, and AIMP does not let you do that.
And no widget but at least I can go to the next and previous song and stop/play without having to unlock the screen.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sec.android.app.music

I've been using Samsung music for quite a while and it does a good job at all of the above method things I think and you don't have to own a Samsung to use it.

I have VLC on my phone but I haven't got around to putting music on my phone so can't really comment.

I use VLC on my PC for videos and occasionally music (which I usually use Windows Media Player for) as it was recommended to me.

VLC user too and absolutely love it.

I'm not sure you can move tracks up and down the playlist though. You probably can! I just don't use playlists and shuffle my music file folder.

I just use the in house player from my ES Explorer app. Very happy with it. VLC for movies, ES for audio.

I'm oldschool I use Folder Player

It does exactly what the name suggests, plays the music from the chosen folder. Very easy to use. For the people who don't like creating playlists.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I'm currently using Pulsar.
Check it out. I believe you won't be disappointed.

My Android-based DAP uses FiiO Music. I have no idea if it works as well on a phone as on dedicated hardware, but it might be worth taking a look.

Wish I could help you, but I still use a Sony MP3 player so I get all my music from ITunes.

I used to have one of those and loved it. I'm thinking about getting another...

I think you should be able to recover your Google Play Music stuff (playlists, uploaded files) using Google Takeout. And then you can use Youtube Music to import it all again.

I did that a while ago but have actually switched to Spotify. I only use YTM for tracks I've uploaded myself (and which are not available on YTM).

Before that I've used BubblePnP to play music from my NAS on any DLNA compatible device.
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

Same issues with AIMP. The playlist cannot be altered. I cannot drag and drop a song to change its place in the playlist. There is a 'play next' option, but even that does not change the position of the song in the playlist, so I cannot see which is the playing order. It also creates another list which is called "queue" but I can not change the song order there either, and why is it creating another list anyway? I already made a playlist. Let me change the songs around in that one.
